Welcome Back!

We hope you had a great Spring Break! At the March PTA meeting a new KLES PTA

Executive Board was elected. We welcome Elise Williams as the new PTA President,

Darcy Wood as the new Vice President, and Allysen Santilli as the new Secretary. They

will join Beth Zange-Sellers, Vice President and Amanda Farmer as Treasurer. We are

excited for this amazingly talented group of people to run our Executive Board for our

kids and community. They start July 1st.

We have 4 committees left we are looking for team leads and

volunteers to help run.

After School Program: This committee needs 2-3 people who can

help organize the sign ups for clubs and snacks for kiddos before clubs

begin. This committee has a lot of behind the scene work as well as

being at school for snacks and attendance 2-4 times a week. (The more people we have

the less time at the school).

Community Nights: This committee is at home work. You would schedule community

nights with restaurants and Skate City. It is making calls and coordinating dates with

school and PTA calendars.

Intercultural Fair: This event is a large fair celebrating all cultures held in cooperation

with South Lakewood Elementary School. This event needs several people to help run

performers, food, decorations, fundraising and activities. This committee is a time

commitment but the more people we have join the easier the work becomes. It is so much

fun!

Reflections Art Show Program: This program is run through the Jeffco, CO and

National PTAs. We run an Art show for our KLakes students to showcase their art and

submit our winners on to Jeffco PTA. The kids can move on through state and national

programs as well. This program is organizing and scheduling the Kendrick Lakes art

show and reception as well as working with Jeffco PTA for submitting art and

documentation for our kids. The Reflections program typically runs in October and

November with the Jeffco Art Show in the beginning of December.

These four committees are favorites for our kids and community. We need help to run them or they run the risk of being scaled way back or dissolved. Please let us

know if you think you can help us with any part of any of these three committees.

Thank You Gracias Merci 谢谢

Wow! Our third Intercultural Fair was a HUGE success! As you know this event

took months of planning and help from families, staff, and the community. As ICF

Committee Chair, I wanted to take a moment to personally thank all those involved.

First, I would like to thank the PTAs from South Lakewood and Kendrick

Lakes Elementary School for sponsoring the event. We could not host the fair without your support.

Principal Loren Huwa for allowing us the use of the school and Coach Kallendar for letting us take over

his gym.

Staff: All the teachers who contributed classroom assignments. Our teacher liaisons Jennifer Durso and

Colby Hansen, and RaeAnn Overholt who made our selfie station.

Every family who brought in a potluck dish. The food was delicious!

All our performers with a special thank you to Café Cultura and the Medicine Heart Dancers for donating

their time to our cause.

All those who donated prizes for our raffle including Lori Laurita, and Jen Wheeler (and the other

unnamed families who donated prizes too).

The décor for this event was a huge undertaking and required many hours of hand crafting the beautiful

flowers that lined the gym. I would like to thank Elisa Hansen, Vicky Minshall, Marivel Gonzales,

Sharon Koenig, Yanet Ylantas, Jen Granbery, Lynette Huntley, Beth Zange-Sellers, Dan Hutchings,

Darcy Wood, Mike Weathers, Kathy Williams, Julliana Hermosillo, Rosa Simkins, Chloe Cheshire,

Crystal Coffee, Tammy Kerr, and Tracy Sluzalis.

Thank you to Mr. Short who shared his African Mask collection with us.

Our other exhibitors for Jeffco Public Schools Leroy Saiz and Arianne Rivera.

From Belmar library Rhoda Yeager who brought in the lovely oversized games and Marie Meyer from

Adolesco.

The SLE sixth graders who ran our international game table.

My parents Bea and Abraham Ogaz who travelled 12 hours from El Paso, Texas to come and help with

this event. Bea worked our prize table.

Tracy Sweezy for getting our programs printed and helping me tie up all my loose ends.

We would like to thank our Facilities Manager Blaine Myers who volunteered his own time and helped

us recycle our water bottles.

Sara Reed and all those parents who stayed after the event help clean up when were done.

Ben Bezjak and Javi Guajardo from Creighton Middle School for working the origami table.

Cathy Hatfield for lending us the beautiful African tapestries that were on display In the cafeteria.

We would like to thank our food servers and dessert station volunteers, Beto Sifuentes and Raquel

Mendoza and our cafeteria manager Crystal Jiron. I am missing names here, I know we had help from

parents from both KLES and SLE in the kitchen/dessert station. Thank you for stepping up. You rocked

it!

Our ushers Omar and Isreal Sifuentes.

Victoria Abeyta for managing our water station.

Our students Lily Reed and Riley Esteep who worked the craft table and Neveah Rodriguez who was our

face painter.

Adam Esteep who spent a lot of time on a ladder hanging up our flags and lanterns.

From Lakewood High School, I would like to thank Parita Wattanasupt and Kathy Hong who helped us

run our game station and Amanda McCray for working our sound system.

Our wonderful MC Scott McCray.

We would like to thank Lakewood Mayor Adam Paul, Senator Andy Kerr, and Councilors Gutwein,

Johnson, and Able for coming out and supporting our event.

And a thank you to Colorado Media School for filming the festivities and our photographer David Lynn.

Our community sponsors: A to Z Rentals, Alameda Burrito, Brodo Italian Scratch Kitchen, Chick-fil-A,

Costco, Creative Rentals & Décor Inc., Einstein Bagels, El Tequileño, Jeffco PTA, Jimmy John’s Little

India, Olive Garden, Panaderia Rodriguez, Perogie Factory, Rock Salt Spa, Rural Project Services,

Tamales by Juana Sifuentes, Timuk Toys, Village Roaster, and Zero Waste Services.

Last but not least, this fair would not be possible without the dedication of our Intercultural Fair Committee:

Ashley Short and Jane McCray on performances

Melissa Esteep who was the visionary of our décor scheme and made it happen

Ella Battalova on Crafts

Andrea Guajardo on Exhibitions

Kirsten Gnagy TCB (Taking Care of Business)

Gaby Sifuentes our Food Chair

Judy Davis and Kathy Schmidt on Business Outreach who secured all of our restaurant donations

This is a long list and I am sure I missed some folks. Thank you

to everyone who helped. You see what can happen when we all

work together.

Respectfully yours,

Sandie Weathers

ICF Committee Chair
