THE KENDRICK 6~i-s,ss THURSDk.T, 1KAX 20 1954

THERE'S NO SI~N Lunch. 1T!!Even though we don't like to go

through the agony of spring housecleaning, this is the time of yearwhen most homes are in the throes ofpainting, papering, kemtoning, win-dow washing and "cleaning out thecloset."

"I was reaching for my gloves theother day in that closet. I don'know how they got there, butended up by pulling out my bathingtrunks.

On the other hand, I shouldn't feeltoo bad about it, We also have abroom closet and my wife keepsher aprons and floor waxes there. The brooms seem to be in my workshop. We'e got a box for rubbersand overshoes —but the potatoesare there, We'e got a place foreverything in some other place.

As an example: I was hunting fora long-geared sprinkler" for the gar-den —overhead in my workshop-and wound up with the sprinkler-but not before I had displaced ahuge collection of Christmas boxes(plus some later ones) for you see,my wife is a box collector! —Andsrhe, in turn, accuses me of being ajunk collector. But you'l have to ad-

. xnit that odd pieces of pipe, bolts, door knobs, etc., often come in veryhandy around a home. However, Iwill admit they take up room whereboxes could be stored.

But it does bring up the point thatneatness and orderliness- are splendidatributes —in other people. We canall admire the man who sits behinda half-acre of gleaming, uncluttereddesk-top that is occupied only by hiselbows and a row of push-buttons ..even though we will never achieve.such impressiveness. And we can alladmire the housekeeper whose homeis so darn neat that we'd rather notvisit it for fear of dropping a matchor an ash or mussing up a cushionif we sat down.

Please don't misunderstand. Wethink "spring cleaning" is a finething. It's good for the soul, as well.as for limbering up the muscles—some of which we'd even forgottenwe had. Our point is that when thetime comes, there should be some-'thing to clean. Then we can startall over again leaving things in thewrong places.

To quote an old friend of ours, whowe think has the proper perspective:"Home is a place where you canscratch where it itches." —: Sincerely,Bill.
