The Skills InitiativeAnnounced in March 2014, The Skills Initiative is a unique partnership
between the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the German Embassy
focused on developing training programs to create a workforce
pipeline that will meet the needs of Kentucky’s businesses
What is KY FAME?
Industry Partnership of Manufacturers
Goal: Create a pipeline of skilled workers through
apprenticeship-style training programs.
The Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (KY FAME)
- Primary program used by KY FAME to create a skilled workforce in skilled maintenance.
- Integrated, career pathway associate degree program provided by KCTCS colleges.
- Combines workplace experience with a simulated classroom environment.
- KY FAME members sponsors students, who then participate in AMT
- Attend classes 2 full days per week
- Work at sponsoring company 3 full days per week
KY FAME: Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT)
The National Career
Pathway Network
recognized the AMT
program as the Best
Career Pathway Program
in the U.S. in 2013.
- In January 2015, Governor Beshear created at statewide board with company membership
from every workforce investment area in KY as well as representation from KCTCS, the
Kentucky Association of Manufacturers and the Cabinet for Economic Development.
- The goal of the board is to establish a KY FAME chapter in every workforce investment area in
Kentucky by the end of 2015
