Homework

As well as extending the learning outside of the classroom, we consider homework to be a useful tool in building self-discipline, organisation, and independent learning.

In Year 12 and 13, most subjects will set a homework of around 180 minutes a week w ith a maximum of 150 -180 minutes a night.

Assessment

The most valuable assessment which takes place is informal. In every lesson, the teacher makes judgements about student progress and alters their teaching to suit students’ needs. This information forms part of teachers’ overall judgements about students’ progress. In addition to this, there are times when more formal assessment methods may be used. In the Sixth Form students are assessed using IAL/AL grades: A* - U.

Assessment, Target Setting

Target Setting Students in Year 12 all sit Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT4). These will indicate students’ potential in each subject. Teachers will set a challenging target based on:

prior attainment

the information provided from the CAT4

their own judgement of each student’s potential. Reporting Parents will receive regular information on their child’s progress. Each year, parents will:

receive one full written report with teacher comments

receive two Progress Reports

receive information on their End of Year Assessment results, and an overall End of Year Grad

have the opportunity to attend a Student Led Conference to discuss their child’s progress with their subject teachers.

and Reporting

Page 7: Key Stage 5 - Bangkok Prep

Residential Visits Each year, students undertake a residential visit. This is an integral part of the school curriculum and all students are required to attend. Year 13 go to Chiang Mai each year and Year 12 go to Nakorn Nayok, however, the activities on the residential change to ensure nothing is repeated. Each residential visit has a range of activities which challenge students personally, socially, and academically. The residential visits are seen as vitally important in helping to foster a sense of community in year groups, and educating students in social and emotional learning. After School Activities All students are strongly encouraged to participate in the school’s After School Activity programme. There are a vast range of activities on offer which cater for a whole range of interests. In the 2018-19 academic year, there were a significant number of activities offered including: International Award, numerous sports teams, music activities, public speaking, artistic groups, film clubs, science clubs, computing groups, creative writing groups, and Model United Nations, amongst many others.

Learning Outside of the

House System The House system at Bangkok Prep is an extremely important and popular part of school life. All students are placed in one of four Houses: The school runs numerous House competitions throughout the year which foster a sense of community and healthy competition. In the 2018-19 academic year, students had the opportunity to be involved in charity events, football teams, basketball teams, dodgeball teams, photography competitions, Sports Day, mathematics competitions, English competitions, and the much-loved Christmas Sing-Off event. There are also opportunities for students to be involved in leadership in their House by becoming a House Leader.

Students in the Sixth Form follow their own personal pathway. For the majority of students this is 4 x AS Levels in Year 12 and 3 x A2 subjects in Year 13. However, every student has the opportunity to discuss subject choices with the University Guidance Counsellor and/or the Head of Sixth Form and programmes are tailored to meet individual needs. Individual pathways may also include IGCSE’s, if a pass in Maths and English Language has not yet been achieved. Students choose 3 or 4 subjects from 5 option blocks that change each year. For 2019 - 2020 the option blocks are:
