No 34 Wednesday 13th November 2019 KFPS News Dear students, parents & friends, Welcome to Week 6 of this term. Can you believe that we are exactly halfway through this term? We have so much more fun to have, speaking of which, lets not forget our Crazy Hair/Out of uniform day this coming Friday. Maybe if our students are out of uniform…… maybe I should come IN uniform? Sadly, Im not entirely sure that I would fit into my old school uniform? Remembrance Day On Monday 11 th November, our school choir along with our school captains attended the Kangaroo Flat Remembrance Day service at the Memorial Park cenotaph in High St Kangaroo Flat. The service commenced at 10:40am with our school captains, Atticus and Makayla laying a wreath, student leaders Tiffany, Tajh and Maddy raising the flags from half-mast to full mast and finally our school choir singing the national anthem. Bike Education Under the watchful eye and instruction from Mr Colley, our PE Teacher, our Grade 3-6 students have been participating in Bike Education and F-2 students participating in Scooter education during their Phys Ed classes. The students have certainly enjoyed the opportunity to take to the bikes and scooters, ride the course and partic- ipate in the activities to support their ability on the bikes. Kyabram Fauna Park. This morning our Grade 1/2 students set off on the bus to visit the Kyabram Fauna Park as part of their work in their inquiry unit. Given that my home town is in the Kyabram area, this parkland is a regular on my familys to do list, so I know that our students will enjoy it. I look forward to hearing all about it and seeing the photos. Parent Club fundraiser – Friday 15 th November – Out of uniform & Crazy hair. A casual clothes/crazy hair day will be held this Friday 15 th November as a fundraiser for the Parent& Friends Club. Students will be expected to pay a gold coin donation to come dressed out of uniform and wearing a crazy hair do for the day. Last year this was so much fun to see the effort that a number of students put into their hair styles. Think colour, think 80’s big, think CRAZY!! Transition Yesterday we commenced transition across the school with students from Grades 1-5 having the opportunity to step up into another class; another year level for an hour. The importance placed on transition within our school helps to alleviate any anxiety about what next year might look like in a different class, with different teachers and different academic expectations. Transition within our school is a 5 week process with lots of opportunities for some students to have extra visits to classes. Foundation/Prep orientation: starts next Tuesday 19 th November Step into Preporientation sessions commence next Tuesday morning November 19 th at 9:15am – 10:45am and will be held for four consecutive Tuesday mornings. Transition is a wonderful way to help support our pre- schoolers to get to know us here! Please arrive through the office so that we can escort you to your allocated area. Planning for 2020 – Parent Input invited Class structure for 2020 With consideration for the student numbers at each grade level, the decision about the structure of the classes is as follows: 2 classes x Foundation 3 classes x Grade 1/2 3 classes x Grade 3/4 2 classes x Grade 5 2 classes x Grade 6 There is an opportunity for you to provide information to the school based on educational or social grounds which you believe is important for us to consider when making our 2020 class placements. This information needs to be in writing. Please forward this to me by THIS Friday (15 th November). Late information will not be able to be considered. Class placements will be made taking this information into account, along with class numbers, gender mix, social and academic needs. The decision made at the conclusion of this process will be final and no changes will be made unless there is evidence that a clear error was made. This process is not about naming a preferred teacher.

Dear students, parents & friends,

Welcome to Week 6 of this term. Can you believe that we are exactly halfway through this term? We have so much more fun to have, speaking of which, let’s not forget our Crazy Hair/Out of uniform day this coming Friday. Maybe if our students are out of uniform…… maybe I should come IN uniform? Sadly, I’m not entirely sure that I would fit into my old school uniform?

Grade 3-6 Bike Ed/Grade Prep-2 Scooter Ed Starting week 4, all students in grades 3-6 will be participating in a Bike Education unit, and grades prep-2 in Scooter Education. This will be conducted during PE classes and students are encouraged to bring their own bikes/scooters if possible. We have bikes/scooters at school for those who cannot get their own to school but we ask that

as many as possible bring helmets (even if you haven’t got a bike or scooter) as we have a few, but not enough to cover a whole class. If you have any queries please contact Travis Colley at the school. Classes are as follows: Rooms 7 & 3 Monday, Room 13 Tuesday, Rooms 8, 12,14, 4 Wednesday, Rooms 5,18, 19 Thursday and 6, & 9 Friday.

Breakfast Club Hamper: We are a lucky school to have a breakfast program on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. On Tuesday and Thursday we have some very helpful students and on Wednesday we have very caring helpers from the Anglican Church. This week we are holding a raffle

that cost nothing, just come to Brekky Club to enter!! It has milk, Cheerios, Weetbix, Baked beans, Fruit and Oats in the hamper. This will be drawn on Friday at assembly. You better hurry, your last chance to enter is tomorrow. Congratulations to last weeks winner: Tahlia C

WRITING EXTENSION PROGRAM:

This week students continued to work on their persuasive texts. We have been working on two strategies that are great for writing our Sizzling Start:

Rhetorical Questions Dramatic Statement

Students have practised writing a number of Sizzling Starts for their topic using these strategies. This week’s Writers of the Week are: Gumnut Neighbourhood: Caleb M (room 6) Caleb’s Topic: School Should Start Later Caleb is for this and his Sizzling Starts are:

Do you have too many jobs to do in the morning? School should start later so you can do these.

Do you like school? Not really so school should start later. Grevillea Neighbourhood: Richard M (room 14) Richard’s Topic: Classes Should Get Free Time at the End of the Day Richard is for this and his Sizzling Starts are:

Have you ever felt so tired that you need a break from school work?

Do you ever think that your students are so tired that they need a break from all that work?

Your students are yawning. Teachers, give them free time so they can relax and you can do what you need to get done.

Keep up the excellent persuasive writing!
