Features

How the KGA sleeves work: Matching elastomersleeves seal against each under a highcompression load when the valve is open,creating the valve pressure vessel. When thevalve is closed, the sleeves seal against the gateface, isolating upstream from downstream. Asthe gate strokes, a gap is created between thefacing sleeves, allowing any media that couldpotentially clog or jam the valve to be purgedout from between the sleeves, and potentiallyexpelled outside the valve housing to

atmosphere. The encapsulated internal stiffenerring molded into the sleeve is designed tomaintain the roundness of the sleeves, resistingthe heavy shearing forces during actuation whileretaining the internal line pressure. The uniqueKGA sleeve assembly provides positive sealingaction when the valve gate is closed. When thegate is open, the sleeves provide anunobstructed port and protect metal parts fromthe flowing slurry.

Available Sleeve Materials:

Natural Rubber (standard): This categoryincludes all natural gum elastomers, bothfilled and unfilled and syntheticpolyisoprene. Has high tensile strength,superior resistance to tear and abrasion andgood resistance to heat build-up. Maximumcontinuous operating temperature 180°F.

EPDM-HTP: Advantages - excellentresistance to heat, ozone and sunlight, verygood flexibility at low temperature, goodresistance to alkalis, acids, and oxygenatedsolvents and superior resistance to waterand steam. Limitations - poor resistance tooil, gasoline, and hydrocarbon basedsolvents. Maximum continuous operatingtemperature 300°F.

Optional available sleeve materialsTyco Flow Control offers optional elastomersfor use in the KGA. These and otherelastomers may be available upon requestand review of application and theinstallation. Please contact Tyco FlowControl for additional information.

NBR (Nitrile): Advantages - very goodresistance to petroleum based greases/oils,silicone greases/oils and nonoxidizingchemicals. Good resistance hydrocarbonbased fuels. Limitations - Inferior resistanceto ozone and oxygenated solvents.Maximum continuous operating temperature275°F.

HNBR (Nitrile-HTP): Same as aboveexcept maximum continuous operatingtemperature 325°F

Chlorobutyl: Advantages - Outstandingimpermeability to gases and vapor, verygood resistance to heat, oxygen, ozone andsunlight. Excellent energy absorption andresistance to alkalis and oxygenatedsolvents, superior resistance to water andsteam. Limitations - Poor resistance to oil,gasoline and hydrocarbon based solvents,poor resilience. Maximum continuousoperating temperature, 230°F.

OEM Replacement Sleeves andPartsTo maintain the expected performance ofyour KGA, always use genuine ClarksonOEM sleeves and other replacement partsfrom Tyco Flow Control. Genuine KGAsleeves from Tyco are easily recognized bythe laser etched identifying marks found onthe sleeve O. D. These marks include thesize, part number, applicable patentnumber, elastomer batch compound anddate of manufacture; all of which allowcomplete traceability of the part. ClarksonKGA replacement sleeves from Tyco are theonly ones authorized for use in the KGA andoffer the best fit and continued performancethat non-OEM parts simply cannot give. Theuse of copycat parts may invalidate anyremaining warranty.

Specification

Clarkson KGA Slurry Knife Gate Valve Heavy duty, slurry knife gate valve shall be flat-face flanged, packingless, rubber-lined, bi-directional valve suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. The full port design shall have no internal obstructions and will provide a “blind flange” shut-off when the gateis closed. The valve’s sealing surface is to be between two thick, rubber sleeves that arecompressed into the valve housings. The sleeve will be molded with an internal stiffenerring that locates the sleeve in the valve housing and helps the sleeves resist the highshearing forces present when the gate is driven between them. The stainless steel gateshall be completely withdrawn from the process flow when in the open position, and can beinspected and replaced, if necessary, without taking the valve out of service. When thevalve is in the closed position, the downstream sleeve can be replaced while the upstreamportion of the valve is still holding pressure. Valve body housing to suit ANSI B16.5/150through 24" and MSS-SP44 above 24". Valve is equipped with a heavy steel fabricatedhandwheel frame (yoke) which can be converted to bevel gear in the field, complete with a304 stainless steel rising stem (except cylinder actuated valves). All nonferrous exteriorsurfaces shall be painted to factory standard. Specify Clarkson KGA slurry knife gate valvefrom Tyco Flow Control.
