The Latest on Twitter
• 19% of online adults use Twitter, behindFacebook (71%), LinkedIn (22%) andPinterest (21%).
• 500 millions tweets per day.
• About one billion total users, but 271 million monthly active users and 100 million daily users.
• 78% of all tweets monthly active usersaccess Twitter via a mobile device.
Twitter Demographics
• Majority of Twitter users are men.
• 55% of Twitter users are less than 49.
• Plurality of Twitter users have a collegeeducation or higher.
• Twitter users tend to fall on one extreme(less than $30,000) or the other (+75,000)of the economic spectrum.
So, what works?
Engagement
• Mentions• By publicly mentioning another person, you
increase the odds of getting that person tomention you, thus gaining more exposure.
• Images• Tweets with images get more engagement.
• Retweets• Retweet interesting content – good for your followers and for the person you
are retweeting!
• Links• Tweets with links get 86% more retweets than tweets without them.• Use ow.ly or tinyurl.com to shorten links
• Hashtags• Can double your engagement rate – but don’t overdo it!
Engagement tips
• Ask questions! The only way to get engagement is to actively solicit it.
• Vary your content, and don’t always tweet about your work or business.
• Limit blatant self-promotion to one out of every ten tweets.
• Tweet positive feedback about experiences with other business professionals.
• Always stay positive. Always stay positive.
• Discuss controversial topics at your own risk – avoid them if you can!

• Top ten trending topics throughout the world.
• Can change to reflect location; Philadelphiais the closest that Twitter gets to the Lehigh Valley.
• Participate in these conversations if they are ofinterest to you and your brand, but remember,don’t try to shoehorn sales content in.
• Only participate if you have something to say!

or an Email newsletter? Take that content and repurpose it for Twitter.
• Blogs• Are you looking at blogs in your industry?
You can tweet blog entries/facts fromarticles that you read.
• Recommendation: Feedly. Can find and read multiple blogs from one app/website.

let you know what content has the highestsocial reach.

terms are found.
• Can be your name, business name, trends, etc.

Growing your audience
• Content is King• If you tweet interesting content, you will be retweeted and mentioned – this
will gain you more followers.
• Hook up with your network.• Import your Emails to see who in
your network is already on Twitter.
• Cross promote with other electronic platforms• Post your Twitter page to Facebok, your website and any other appropriate
platforms.
• Email blast
• Email signature
• Business cards
Growing your audience
• All pieces of print promotion – put the URL, not just the logo!
• Hold a contest• Enter anyone who retweets a certain tweet, award them with a prize, and
photograph the winners.
• Signs in your store, encouraging people to take pictures and tag you in them.
• Check out similar profiles – and follow similar people.
Remember – Twitter audience growth is a slow burn. It takes time.
