    One

sunny afternoon, I heard the joyful

sound of a voice announcing the

arrival of the circus. Boys and girls! The circus

is here, come and see the clowns, jugglers,

    contortionists, magicians, elephants, tigers,

monkeys and even your granny! Do not miss

it! Without a second to spare, I was joining the

stampede of children that were following the

truck full of clowns that were spreading the

joyful news. We all followed the laughter and the

large, owery dresses that took us to the place

where magic is born, skills shine with elegance

and the applause explodes in every direction:

    The Circus.

Under a big striped tent, the circus brings us

the imagination of actors and characters who

know how to make us laugh and also hold our

breath in suspense. The circus is captivating

and continues to amaze audiences around

the world. Today, the magic tricks are more

sophisticated, the animals do more than just

stand on two legs, the human cannonball ies a

few more feet; but something remains as iconic

and as necessary as in the circuses from the

earliest days; clowns still wear a red nose and

bring their contagious smile everywhere theygo.

Join us at the circus by taking a VIP pass to the

tent setup on pages 8 and 9. See if you can spot

some of circus characters. You may nd your

favorite one and good luck nding Kaptain Leaf!

    This

is a story of a very passionate and

resilient little girl who cares not justabout her well being; but others. Let us hear her story:

My name is Emily and I am eight years old. About two

years ago, while going to get my hair cut for back toschool, I saw a print out from the paper that showeda girl donating her hair for kids who had hair loss from

cancer treatments. I knew then that I had to grow myhair so I, too, could donate it. So, instead of cutting it, I

decided to grow it and help a child who was very sick.

While my hair was growing, I did not like taking care of

it. The tangles, the brushing and hair getting caughtin everything were painful; nonetheless, every time I

wanted to cut it, I reminded myself why I was doingthis; a kid just like me could really use my hair.

Finally, when August rolled around, it all paid o. WhenI went to get my hair cut for back to school, my hair had

nally reached my goal of 11 inches long. Once cut, itwas donated to the Wigs for kids Foundation whichhelps kids that have gone through cancer treatments

in Niagara. I was so happy to do this and at the sametime relieved that I could nally cut my hair.

Even though it was hard and it took a lot of work tokeep the tangles at ease; I kept reminding myself that

the kids who need my hair go through a lot more pain.I feel really proud and have joy in my heart knowing

that my hair will make another kid feel just a little bitbetter.

What do you think Kiddo? Its amazing, eh? Helping

people make us feel just great! Congratulations Emilyfor what you have done and thank you for sharing

your story with all of us. You have inspired us.

What have you done to help others? Wed love tohear all about it. Send us your story to

No me gustaba cuidar mi pelo mientras creca.

Nossentimos inspirados.

In China, the giant panda is a symboof peace. When it comes to speciesconservation, pandas are perhapthe most powerful symbol in the world

People all around the world love thegreat panda bear

Imagine being up on the misty Qinling Mountains in China andbamboo forest is all around. The ground is snowy and rocky butyour white and black fur helps you camouage. You are big anduyyou have white fur with black patches on your shoulders, legs, nose, ears, and around your eyesyou are a giant panda!

The mountains in China are the coolest places on Earth because youcan eat bamboo and play all day long! Find a nice snowy hill and slidedown on your big furry tummy, and then do it again and again and again!

When you are born you dont have any black patches yet, you have pink skinand a bit of white fur. You cant open your eyes and you are super tinyinfact, it would take about 900 of you to be the same size as your mom. Aftera few years, you will be able to do things on your own, but most of your dayis spent eating and sleeping. You eat for about 12 hours a day becausebamboo doesnt have a lot of nutrition. Your whole head is a giant bamboochomping machine with great big molars and super strong jaws. You haveve ngers plus you also have a thumb (which is actually your wrist bone),that sticks out so you can use it to hold the bamboo shoots and leaves whileyoure eating them. You are like a real-life bamboo eating teddy bear, so cool!People think you are cute and cuddly, but you are just as powerful and can

be just as dangerous as any other bear; a few pandas, like you, even knowKung-Fu.

    BEANACTOR?

    Lights, Camera,ACTION!

Allabout the life of an actor, withguest star Fabian Mendoza.

If you love to dress-up, pretendplay make-believe, then you m

want to be an actor. Acting is about more than playing, about storytelling and bringing to life dierent rolesBeing an actor is a lot of fun, but its also a lot of work.

You have to practice over, and over to makesure you know all your parts. This part

of acting is called the rehearsal.

Actors get a copy of the story, called a script, andthey rehearse everything they have to say and do.

A fun fact about acting: when you discover howmuch you like it, people say you got bit by the actingbug. So, have you been bitten by the acting bug?

Now its time to introduce someone who has denitelybeen bit by the acting bug, Fabian Mendoza. Fabianis a talented Colombian actor who has workedon roles from commercials to television shows &feature lms. Fabians most hilarious performanceis his own creation: Estandapcito the clown.

Here are the top ve things that Fabian saysan actor does each day:

Rehearse lines. Write in an acting journal. Work on acting skills. Stay informed about the entertainment

industry. Read a play or a script.

    Are you ready to start

    your acting carrer?

Can you discover the hidden word in the bouncing balls?

Fabian nds it easy to be passionate about hisacting career because he loves to make peoplelaugh; he says, I work for the best company, thelaughter company. And my oce is the world.Fabian works wherever his feet take him, and evenwhen we asked him how old he is, he found a way tomake us laugh by saying, I am thirty-six, 3+6 = 9, soI am somewhere around nine years old. He startedacting when he was very young by getting involved

in school plays and later studied acting and dramain College.

When Fabian is getting ready for a play, he spendsweeks rehearsing with other actors. These are longdays, but they go by easily because most actorshave a lot of fun doing what they do. Fabian saysthat the workplace of an actor varies dependingon the type of production: lms, television showsand advertisements are usually lmed in studio setswhile theatre productions take place on a stage.According to Fabian, one of the most fun partsabout being an actor is travelling. Actors play manydierent kinds of characters whose stories happenin all sorts of dierent places. This means that actorsneed to travel to all these places to be on-set.

Fabian is a clown and an actor. He uses costumesor whatever clothes best suit the character. Whenhe plays the character of a clown, Fabian alwayshas something on his head, and of course a rednose! Costumes and props help an actor tell a story, but the best tool for actors is how well they use theirsenses. Fabian can do this really well. He says, Iwork with my heart, my mind, my eyes, my ears, myfeet, my hands, my soul and my everything. A lovefor the performing arts can help you choose to be

an actor, but Fabian says that practicing the three

Most actors start their acting careers by acting inplays, so if you want to be an actor, why not sign up foryour next school play, or make your own movie withyour friends or family? There is an actor in all of us;who doesnt like acting out a role? its a great wayto use your imagination, and how much fun is that?
