Childhood Obesity Statistics Statistics say that seven percent of U.S. children age’s six to eleven were obese in 1980 which is more than doubled in 2010, with eighteen percent of U.S. children ages six to eleven that were also obese. Also one in three children and adolescents was overweight or obese in 2010. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends sixty minutes of daily exercise for children and teens. Of age’s five to eight, forty-two percent of boys and eleven percent of girls should get the recommend amount of daily exercise because there were twenty-five percent children who get no exercise outside of school. Health Risks of Childhood Obesity There are seventy percent of obese youth have at least one risk factor of cardiovascular disease. Obese teenagers are more likely to develop diabetes. Also obese youth are at greater risk for issues with bones, joints, sleep apnea, and psychological well-being.
