A special edition – why?
The answer is very simple: We got some i m p o r t a n t l e t t e r s c o n c e r n i n g t h e November edition after press time:

The two attached letters of Peter Mancuso and Valeria Gringeri I recommend for your attention and generous donation. The victims of hurricane “Sandy” need our help and solidarity. If you want to make a donation please use the account that I mentioned in the November edition and which is repeated in the letter of Valeria: The bank charges are much less when you transfer your money to the account of the KIF Foundation in Gent and is
then transferred to Indianapolis in greater amounts.
In 2013 - as you already know - we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Kiwanis in Europe. The first Kiwanis Club in Europe is KC Wien Europa 1. This club has organized a demanding and outstanding program for 15 – 17 March, 2013. KI-EF will honor this event by having its third Board Meeting in conjunction with this anniversary.
Insiders knew it before: Christina Hale, for many years our Liaison Officer for Europe in KI Headquarters and a true friend of Kiwanians in the European Federation, has run for the office of Representative to the Indiana State House. We all keep our fingers crossed that she has won: Actually she is leading by 50 votes – but is not yet certified.

Support disaster relief efforts todayNovember 12, 2012
Dear Kiwanians,
In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the Kiwanis International Foundation will continue to accept donations for disaster relief in accordance with its policy. There you will find a link to donate, or you can also mail contributions designated as "disaster relief" directly to the Kiwanis International Foundation, 3636 Woodview Trace, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46268, USA.
Your donations will help the Kiwanis International Foundation make emergency grants upon application by Kiwanis-family clubs and districts in the affected areas.
To facilitate the delivery of prompt assistance, clubs and districts applying for an emergency grant should send an email to the foundation’s Chief Operating Officer Ann Updegraff Spleth.
Thank you for helping us make a significant and immediate impact on families in the most devastated disaster areas.

Dear Friends, In recent years our planet has suffered many natural disasters. Our Kiwanis has
always responded promptly to calls for help. In recent days, the United States has been hit by a
terrible hurricane, Sandy, that has devastated thousands of people.
Many families have lost everything, house, car and clothes; many have nothing to eat !
The members of the Kiwanis Club of the affected area, New Jersey and New York, have acted
promptly, providing food, clothing and basic necessities, organizing lodging and refectory.
The Kiwanis International Foundation, which has a fund dedicated to natural disasters, has already
received donations for several thousand dollars, but the requests for help that are coming are
numerous.
As already did our President KIEF Ernst, I also ask you and your districts your help to
demonstrate, once again, the great solidarity of the European Kiwanians to those who, at this time,
has more and immediate needs.
The aid is urgent and we must take action right now!

KC Vienna Europe celebrates its 50th anniversary
The first Kiwanis club outside of North America was founded in Vienna in 1963 with the KC Cleveland, Ohio as a sponsor.
50 years later, from March 15th to 17th, 2013, the Kiwanis Club of Vienna Europe 1 is not only celebrating its own 50th Anniversary but will also mark 50 years of Kiwanis in Europe. Details can be found on www.vienna2013.org
We have two wishes: that your district, your division and your club as soon as possible publishes this event in your Kiwanis magazine or -circular as well as your webpage. And that your secretary kindly informs each and every member in your area that booking is now open. Members in Austria and Belgium will by the way be contacted directly.
For the purpose of publishing we attach press releases in three languages and two photos of the Vienna City Hall where the main event will take place. The copyright rests with KC Wien Europa 1 and hence no credits need to be printed with the photos.
We shall be pleased to answer questions and provide additional details and if required also translations into additional languages. And we shall of course be very pleased about each and every guest from your country, district and club and like to express a warm welcome to all Kiwanians for March 2013.

Christina Hale is the newly elected representative for
the House of Representatives of the Indiana State General
Assembly. She will represent a district that covers part of
northern Indianapolis. Christina, a Democrat, defeated an
incumbent Republican who has occupied the same seat for the
past 10 ten years.
Previously, Christina was the Chief Communications Officer of
Kiwanis International and is a member of the Kiwanis club of
Indianapolis.
