Our Kinders displayed great

understanding of the unit as

they explored the lines of

inquiry which was evident

through their actions and

reflections in class. The

students connected their

learning to the IB learner

profile; as to how a friend

needs to be a communicator,

caring and open-minded.

The kinders have been really excited through their

UOI journey. They have been enthusiastic about

making friends and learning new ways to make

friends. Students consolidated their learning by

reflecting on their need for friends, what they like

about their friend and what makes them a good

friend.

Inquirers as we are in

Kindergarten, we extended our

inquiry through language with the

story, ‘The snail and the whale’.

The students visualised and

expressed through their drawings

where they think the snail would

travel next and also wrote a

‘Thank you’ note to the whale.

1In Math, students sequenced stories by

ordinal numbers and sorted objects using

different criteria. They further made a

Venn diagram to highlight the similarities

and differences between their friends and

were also introduced to the comparative

language of ‘tall/short/shorter’.

In Language Art,

kinders made a

friendship quilt

weaving together all

the words they built

using the group 1

and 2 letter sounds.

The journey of our learning is going

further with another interesting Unit

of Inquiry. Students will express

themselves through language and

feelings in dramatic plays. They will

be encouraged to share and explore

social issues; pollution and

(discrimination) relationships with

class friends as they enact stories taking turns, communicate ideas and also

work together in a group to organize and create backdrop for their plays.

Participating in different role play activities will allow the students to develop

different aspects of the IB learner profile and many of the PYP attitudes. They

will be encouraged to be risk-takers as they collaborate with others in play and

adopt new roles each time they perform in a role play. They will also

demonstrate how to be effective communicators, by expressing their ideas and

information confidently and creatively.

Our Kinders will further learn about different

types and purposes of play. Students will

develop their research skills by collecting

data, interpreting and presenting information

about different forms of play in various parts

of the world. They will learn to be open

minded by accepting different perspectives in

the group. We will make this experience very enriching

for our students, where they will get various

opportunities to explore their artistic skills .

To consolidate our learning, students will form and

present a simple story dramatization. They will talk

about, draw and /or show pictures of the play and

explain the reasons for choosing it. They will complete

this learning engagement through a presentation to their

In Language Arts, students will participate in

shared reading. They will further express

opinions about the meaning of a story, show

empathy for characters in a story, join in

with rhymes, songs, word games and

clapping games, gaining familiarity with the

sounds and patterns of the language of

instruction.

In Math, students will be introduced to 2D

and 3D shapes. They will understand that

2D and 3D shapes have characteristics that

can be described and compared . Students

will have recognition of patterns and create

their very own numerical patterns.

Students will be able to connect number

names and numerals to the quantities they

represent. They will further work on the

concept of ‘more/less than’ numbers.

Students will continue to blend letter sounds and build word banks with

jolly phonics letter sounds group 3 and 4.

Students will learn to express their

feelings through music. They will

of Inquiry.

Students will be encouraged to develop competencies in

areas of personal and social development. They will be
