Week 7- 18 th November 2015 Sharing Our News Year 5 Nominees Make Voting a Very Tough Decision Yesterday and this morning we heard some wonderful speeches from our aspirant 2016 School Leaders. Each of our candidates showed maturity and emotional depth as they stated their case to their peers and teachers in such a way that it was very easy to imagine them in the role of captains representing our school. With voting now over I wish them all good luck as we anticipate hearing the results on Presentation Day. Tour De Cure Rides into our Quad I would like to thank Tour de Cure and Woolworths for what was a very entertaining and informative visit to our school on Friday. The children were very excited to learn about the healthy lifestyle choices that are reducing rates of cancer and especially enjoyed the push-up challenge in the quad. I would also like to thank Masters for the donation of 2 new garden beds and flowers for Harry’s Garden that add to this already stunning feature of our school. End of Year Excursions With party day excursions coming in week 11 students are working very hard on being Kind, Safe, Proud and Supportive in order to keep as many of their “Christmas puddings” as possible and hence their invitation to party day excursions. If a child is unable to maintain these values and does lose all their puddings they will remain safely at school for party day. This helps our school set high expectations for student behaviour and students to learn boundaries and consequences. Concert Preparations in Full Swing You may hear many strangely familiar tunes for the remainder of the year as the school prepares for our ‘90s themed end of year concert. I have become oddly nostalgic walking into classrooms hearing Silverchair, Venga Boys, Vanilla Ice and Spice Girls tunes I have not heard since I was a teenager. I just hope a mosh pit doesn’t break out! School Open Afternoon Next Wednesday at 4pm we will be holding our Open Afternoon in our school hall. This is a wonderful chance to engage with teachers as we showcase the new teaching and learning programs being implemented across our school. We look forward to seeing you there. Special Guests Help Commemorate

Remembrance Area

Last Wednesday we were honoured to welcome

some very special guests to our school to open our

new Remembrance Area. The ribbon was officially

cut by Major James Smith from Lone Pine Barracks,

while representatives from the Singleton RSL Sub

Branch and Legacy looked on.

The Remembrance Area was donated to King Street

by Year 6 2013 and 2014 (who fundraised for the

flagpoles) and Year 6 2015 who funded the

Memorial. It was our pleasure to welcome back

school leaders from 2013 and 2014 to the opening.

Once again we would like to thank all who

contributed to this project- Mr Old, the RSL Sub

Branch, Year 6 2013/14/15, Mrs Ros Kelley, Mr

Jamie Griffiths and Eric Ryan.

It was a proud moment to open the KSPS

Remembrance Area which will be a place of

reflection and commemoration for the future King

Street community.

School Leaders from 2013/14/15 join Mr Upcroft as Major Smith

cuts the ribbon.

Special Guests Mr David Walker,Warrant Officer Scott Oben,

Michael McCrone, Major James Smith, Fred Turner, Phil

Fletcher and Arthur Francis.

Tour De Cure Rides In

It was an exciting moment last Friday when 20 riders

from the 2015 ‘Tour De Cure’ rode into our quad.

These inspirational men and women are riding to

raise awareness and funds for men, women and

children suffering from cancer. It was our honour to

welcome them to our school. They spoke to our

students about cancer prevention-in particular

keeping fit, healthy and happy.

Their visit concluded with the presentation of 2 new

garden beds and a number of vegetable plants for

our school to nurture. The donations were courtesy

of Masters, as Woolworths is the major sponsor of

the Tour.

We sincerely wish them all the best as they continue

their journey.

Riders present the new vegetable beds.

Madison helps one volunteer ‘stay fit’!

Final Book Club for 2015

The final Book Club order forms for 2015 were

distributed last week.

Please return all orders by Friday 20th November.

Smiles All Round at Kinder Orientation

The final Kindergarten Orientation session was held

last Thursday, and our teachers have thoroughly

enjoyed getting to know such a lovely group of

children.

We would like to remind all parents that Storytime

sessions continue each Wednesday at 2.30pm in

our library. We encourage you to take advantage of

this opportunity to aid in the transition of your

children to ‘big school’.

Mrs Philpott with Tenisha and Liberty.

Twins Jai and Luca can’t wait for next year.

Imaginations Run Wild at 009

Box building has always been a popular activity in

009, and Charlie, Alana and Annabelle were very

proud of their recent construction! A train big enough

to fit many of their friends.

Appreciaton for a Generous Donation

We would sincerely like to thank the Almond family

for surprising us with a very generous donation last

week. While on line shopping for cricket gear for

their sons, they thought they would purchase a bit

extra for the school also. Cricket Co-ordinator Miss

Honeysett was a very happy lady!

We are fortunate to have such a supportive parent

community.

Town Band says ‘Thank You’

As mentioned in last weeks newsletter, our School

Band joined students from throughout Singleton to

perform at the Town Band Concert.

We received lovely feedback through the week and

congratulate all students on the way they

represented our school…

“I just wanted to pass on the congratulations of the

stage manager and town band committee for the

excellent behaviour and performance by the

students of your school in the combined primary

band.

Well done!”

Wellbeing of our Students Valued

Please be aware that we have an immuno-

suppressed student in our school. If your child

develops a contagious disease, please let the school

know ASAP. If you are unsure if the condition is

contagious, please still notify your class teacher or

the office so we can act accordingly.

Opportunity to Name our New Play Area

By now most families will have admired the new play

area near the library. This area was funded by

Glencore as part of the working bee we held earlier

this year. Now it is completed, we need a name!

If you have an idea please write it on a piece of

paper with your name and class (or phone number if

you are a parent/carer). There will be a box at the

office for suggestions.

King Street is an Allergy Aware School

This is a reminder for all families that some of our

students have serious reactions to products

containing nuts and fish.

We ask that you please do not send foods or

containers to school that contain nut or fish

products.
