Message from the Head Teacher Welcome to May’s newsletter. This has been a short half term, but as you will see from the features a busy one. In addition to the many events and achievements celebrated here, we continue to work hard on improvement. To help students track their own progress, we have introduced student flight paths. In every subject students can track the progress they are making in their journey towards the end of Year 11. Every day now starts with Form Time so that students can meet with their Form Tutor and plan for the day ahead. In June we hope to move to a Vertical House System to increase celebration, competition and student leadership. We are currently reviewing the structure of the week and days ready for timetable roll-up in June. Any changes we make are to help accelerate student progress and underpin a positive school ethos. A gift from Sainsbury’s

Sheila Hyland and Siobhan Peebles from Sainsbury’s Castle Vale visited Year 7 recently, to donate Sports Relief merchandise from this year’s charity fundraising extravaganza. “We sometimes have stock remaining of products for specific events, which we cannot sell once the event is over.” explained Sainsbury’s PR Manager Mrs Hyland. “We were pleased to be able to donate Sports Relief merchandise and work alongside the school once again; we

received a very warm welcome from everyone at Kingsbury.” We are very grateful to Sainsbury’s for their support and kind donation of socks, T shirts, and drinks bottles. This year our students raised over £300 for Sports Relief through various activities. Miss Walters.

Mock Exam Results Day

Year 11 students recently gathered in the sports hall and were given envelopes containing the results of the past exam papers that they sat in March. Following previous mock exams in November, the event gave them a further opportunity to practice their exam skills and gave them a taste of things to come. Detailed feedback from their teachers enabled students to fully focus on the areas they need to improve on for the summer exams. Many students had improved on their November results and are hoping to improve still further in the ‘real thing’ this summer. We wish all students the best of luck with their exams. Mr Bartlett

Debate Mate On 7

th April we attended the Debate Mate Deutsche

Bank Cup at the University of Birmingham on Monday. It was a fantastic day and the students won four out of their six debates, narrowly missing out on a place in the final. Well done to: Kawsar Mohamed, Kymani Williams, Seren Skeete, Talitha Thompson, Adam Hameed, Leah Lynn, Tabassum Tarafdar and Jay Alves. Miss Luscombe

Thank You to Tesco New Oscott for their kind donation of Easter Eggs. These were

awarded to students at the end of term awards assemblies. Mrs Barnicle

Punctuality Awards

I am very pleased to say that for the second term running a Year 9 student has won the termly ‘H82BL8’ prize, in recognition of consistent punctuality to school. There was the usual hushed anticipation at the end of term Prize Draw held in April, with amazing prizes on offer including a Play Station 4, an iPad or £300.00 of Selfridges Vouchers. Madeleine Bradley was the winner and chose the vouchers. She bought a bottle of perfume for her mother and some clothes for herself, and is saving the rest for the holidays. As well as having 100% perfect punctuality Maddie also has 100% attendance. She had this to say: “It was a surprise that I won it because the whole school was involved. Everyone thinks it's just the good, quiet kids who win, but anyone can - just don't be late for school, and come in every day."

We will continue to recognise and reward students who persistently adhere to the ethos and standards of Kingsbury. Mrs Sookdeo

Remember: All students return to school on Monday 2nd June 8.40 am prompt!
