YOU CAN DO IT! PROGRAM

YOU CAN DO IT!

In 2018, we will be continuing our school wide focus on the “You Can Do It!” Program.

The goal of You Can Do It! is to provide children with the foundations for achievement in school, work and the world of tomorrow. We will be focusing on five important foundations that will help your child do the best he or she can at school and at home:

Confidence Persistence Getting Along Organisation Emotional Resilience

Underpinning each of these foundations are the Twelve Habits of Mind which are defined as an automatic tendency to think in a certain way (this can be either positive or negative).

By thinking in that way, the young person experiences certain emotions and behaviours that will either lead to academic achievement and social-emotional-behavioural well-being when his/her Habits of the Mind are positive or, when negative Habits of the Mind exist, under-achievement and poor psychological health.

The triangle below illustrates the links between the Positive Habits of Mind, the Social Emotional foundations of You Can Do It!, and the environment in helping young people to reach their full potential in academics, relationships and overall well-being.

The You Can Do It! Program will commence in Term Two and our school

wide focus will be Confidence.

Please arrive at our hall 10 minutes before the allocated time, to sign in

the visitor’s book, on a table near the entrance. Our students are really

looking forward to sharing this event with you.

PARENT SUPPORT GROUP

Parent Support Group is provided for parents who need some support,

friendship or a listening ear on how parenting

is going.

Scott is trialling a parent support time, Friday

mornings this term from 8.00am - 8:30am in

the Chaplaincy room upstairs near the Year 6

classrooms.

Come have a cuppa and share the good things

and some of the struggles we all face as parents. We will meet this

Friday, so please come along and make a new friend.

HEARING SCREENING

This year Kippa-Ring State School is again providing a Hearing Screening

Program, a service conducted by the University of Queensland Health

and Rehabilitation Clinics (UQHRC)-Audiology Clinic to school aged

children.

Research indicates that hearing difficulties may have a significant effect

on a child’s ability to learn. Children with a hearing loss may experience

speech and language delays, educational difficulties, behavioural

problems and often require increased educational support.

A child’s hearing may also change over time so it is important to

monitor a child’s hearing even if they have passed a previous hearing

test.

Our school has funded a hearing screen for

the past two years for our students and

believe it was so beneficial that we have

decided to fund it again this year.

This is an excellent opportunity for your

child to have his/her hearing tested at no

cost, as the school will be paying all costs involved with the screening.

We would like all our Prep students to participate in this screen and

forms have been sent home.

The testing will occur on Thursday 22 March and will consist of the

following:

Screening hearing test for both ears under headphones.

Screening of the function of the middle ear for both ears.

Recommendation/s based on results obtained.

Testing takes approximately 10-15 minutes per child and will be adapted

according to the child’s age and responses.

The testing will usually be performed by Master of Audiology students

under the direct supervision of a qualified and experienced Audiologist.

A summary of the results will be sent home with the child in the form of

a booklet. Recommendations could include: further testing at the

University or similar clinic or a referral to a General Practitioner for

medical intervention.
