It s not hard to associate spring with change, new life and hope for the future. Especially as the spring marks the most important time in our liturgical calendar, the celebration of Easter - the life & hope that Jesus gave us when he sacrificed himself for our sins. Once again, our annual St. Patricks Day Open House on Sunday March 12th was a huge success, as one of our most anticipated fraternal events of the year. As usual, Marian Hall was packed, and our world-championship-calibre Goggin-Carroll dancers did not disappoint with their talents. A few also commented on how impressed they were seeing a Marian Council rock-star-turned- Irish-dancertake to the floor. As always, excellent job, broth- ers Brian OConnor, Conor OBoyd and Leo OTopolniski! Al- so, a special thank you to PGK Dr. Jack Cudmore for the person- al Irish pins he made for the ladies. The March 20 th Mass for Life celebrated by Bishop Miehm and Fr. Ranjan DSa was well attended by members of Marian Coun- cil – participating in the Bishop Reding Assembly Honour Guard, as well as the Mass and social afterwards. DGK & PGK Henry and I took the opportunity to present a cheque to Janet Coffey, Oakvilles 40 Days for Life lead, in support of the spring campaign. Janet was very grateful for our ongoing support and looks forward to our attendance at the 40Days for Life End Rally outside the Oakville Hospital at 3pm on Palm Sunday (April 9 th ). Our annual Way of the Cross, Good Friday Walk (April 14 th ), will have over 100 participants, join us, to remember the sacri- fice made for us over 2000 years ago, by participating in a sol- emn, reflective, 8km walk with Jesus, carrying his cross to Cal- vary. We continue to build a reputation as THE youth-led, Good Friday Walk, in which families throughout the GTA and beyond, are able to get involved. By bringing Christian families together on Good Friday, to openly share their faith through prayer and song, in a safe, supportive atmosphere, Oakvilles Way of the Cross, Good Friday Walk, is a form of evangelization to those that observe this annual event, in the greater community. Have a look at the beautiful video that Bro Warren put together last year, at www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBWOD6S0Z-k . April also brings the annual Special Olympics - Oakville, Bowl- ing Fundraiser, led by Bro James Montague, on Saturday April 22 nd at Hopedale Bowl. This is another, usually sold-out, first- class event. If you are unable to attend, you can still support the event by donating a bottle of wine to the very popular Wine- Fridge-Raffle and/or buying raffle tickets. Your bottle(s) of wine can be dropped off at the hall. You can purchase raffle tickets, donate something to the silent auction or sponsor a bow- ler, team or lane at our April General Meeting as Bro James plans to be in attendance. In lieu of collecting money for the 50/50 draw, we will be sell- ing Ontario Knights of Colum- bus Charity Foundation tickets at our April and May meetings. There are 500 prizes with a grand prize of $200,000 cash. Each ticket is only $5 each. We also have books of 10 tickets that are available for you to take and sell. Not only do the funds raised from the sale of tickets support many Ontario State chari- ties, including Ontario Special Olympics, a percentage of sales also comes back to Marian Council. With the great prizes and relatively low cost, tickets are easy to sell amongst family, friends and co-workers. The Ontario State Convention is April 21-23 rd at the Internation- al Plaza Hotel by the airport. Any brother Knight in good stand- ing (a signed 2017 membership card) may participate in the meetings. Our worthy Chancellor, PGK Dennis & I will be Mar- ian Councils voting delegates this year. Our worthy Chaplain, Fr. Todd, also plans to attend. Tuesday April 25 th will be an exciting evening. In addition to our Games Night at the hall, there will also be an Admission (1 st ) Degree at Mary Mother of God. As a result of our February recruitment efforts, we expect a number of Marian Council can- didates to begin their Knighthood journey that evening. If you are not attending the Games Night, please consider joining us, for an hour, in support of our candidates. Candidates need to arrive before 7p, all others by 7:15p. I hope to see you at our April 11 th General Meeting, where our Elections Chair, PGK Andrew Eckstein will be taking 2017/18 officer nominations, or at one of our many other April events. Wishing you and your family a holy, blessed Easter. He is Risen - Vivat Jesus! Giuseppe
