Knights’ Meeting Minutes March 5th, 2020 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Grand Knight, Mike Dec. All members were in possession of their membership cards. The opening prayer was said. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag followed. ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: Chaplain, Fr. Paul (Mike) has been involved with St. John’s parish for many, many years. Nick Guarriello made a motion to accept the request for admissions. Dave Beaty made a second to the motion. Motion passed. At 7:10 pm we proceeded to our First Degree Exemplification. Three applicants were inducted. Included were Neal Ryan, Lee Roundtree, and Paul (Mike) Thompson. At the end of the ceremony we had a drawing for $100. In a past meeting, this idea was implemented as an incentive to draw new members. Of the three new member’s names, Paul (Mike) Thompson’s name was drawn. Congratulations! GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT: There will be a Second/Third Degree Exemplification on April 4th in Molalla at St. James Church. Registration is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. with the Degree beginning at 9:30. The ceremony will be over between 12:30 and 1:00 p.m. On March 9 th -11 th there will be a Lenten Mission at Christ the King Parish. There will be two sessions each day. One will be at 9:00am and the other at 7:00pm, with the same presentation at both sessions. Fr. Theo Lang will be presenting the Mission. Information is available on our website. Knights’ Meeting Minutes March 5th, 2020

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Grand Knight, Mike Dec. All members were in possession of their membership cards. The opening prayer was said. MINUTES: The minutes of the February meeting were approved as posted. REPORT OF THE ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE & THE READING OF APPLICATIONS: Paul M Thompson applied to join our council. We know Paul who goes by the name Mike Thompson. He attends the 5:30 mass. Paul (Mike) has been involved with St. John’s parish for many, many years. Reading by Grand Knight of Receipts of Treasure to Financial Secretary & Treasurer’s Voucher of Deposit * Please see attached list at the end of the minutes for a more detailed report. BILLS: $129.92 Dave Bredemann - supplies for F.U.N. Dinner $196.00 Mark Welters - $55 stamps, $111 Degree Supplies, $15 card and mass for Larry Wisler, $15 card and mass for Margaret Landauer. A motion to pay the bills was made by Dave Beaty with a second from Mark Vodka. The motion passed. REPORT OF AUDITORS AND TRUSTEES: None CORRESPONDENCE A letter came from the State Deputy of Tennessee. He wanted to make us aware of an online donation opportunity via PayPal for disaster relief. Information will be found in the “NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS” heading on our website. The new ultrasound machine at the Obira Clinic in Oregon City is up and running. CHANCELLOR’S REPORT: None SERVICE PROGRAMS REPORTS Team 2 will serve breakfast on March 8th. This particular Sunday is the change from Standard Time to Daylight Saving Time. We expect everything to go well. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Reminder to all: Raffle tickets are available for members to sell. The drawing will be on Saturday, May 16th at our Steak/Chicken Dinner. The dinner will begin immediately after the 5:30 mass. A total of 300 tickets will be sold at $20 each. 1st Prize A vacation house for October 2 - 6 in Manzanita 2nd Prize $750 gift cards to merchants of the winner’s choice 3rd Prize Pit Boss wood-pellet grill

SEE EVENT FLYER ATTACHED TO THE END OF THE MINUTES Tickets for the dinner will be printed and will be ready to sell in April. Prices for the dinner are $20 for individuals, and $60 for a family. On Friday, March 20th our council will be in charge of the parish Soup & Stations. At 5:45pm will be the Chaplet of Divine Mercy & Benediction, followed by 6:00pm Stations of the Cross, and 6:30pm Soup, and bread supper. The sign-up for this event includes: Mark Welters with potato soup, Nick Guarriello bringing rolls, Chuck Fuller - soup, Mike Dec - lentil soup, Neal Ryan - soup, Dave Williams - candle bearer, Mark Vodka - candle bearer, Mike Thompson - reader, and Henry - Cross bearer. The KCs will serve Coffee and Donuts after the masses on March 22nd. Mike Dec and Mark Welters have offered to set up. Volunteers for the 8:30 mass include Jerry Renfro, Harry Reed, and Mark Vodka. Volunteers for the 10:30 mass are Dave Williams and Nick Guarriello.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS (cont): 40 Cans for Lent. We are asking our fellow parishioners and fellow knights to help with this very worthwhile annual project. Please help feed our hungry. Contributing 40 cans of food, or $40 would greatly help our efforts. As an incentive, Supreme is offering councils $500 for gathering 5,000 pounds or $5000 (or a combination of the two). Food items currently needed are tuna, canned fruit, and soup. Dave Bredemann and his Grandson Thomas raised $749 for the Special Olympics with their Polar Plunge Fund Raiser. Congratulations and thanks for their chilling feat! The Special Olympics raised $186,000. Ben Hungerford still has three boxes of Tootsie Rolls that we would like to use in a fund raiser this fiscal year. NEW BUSINESS Jim O’Brien will offer a training session to any interested ushers on the use of the AED defibrillator machine located at the back of the church. The instruction will be March 12th at 7:00 pm. Training will take place in the back of the church. There will be no charge! Thank you Jim. At a previous training session, five ushers took part in a presentation by Jim. They were Ingrid Rhemrev, John Maahs, Don Bredehoeft, Jack Powell, and Mike Dec. A motion was made by Dave Beaty with a second by Cliff Aktinson to make our month payment of $50 to the Obria Clinic. The motion passed. A motion was made by Mark Welters with a second by Mark Vodka to write a check to Mike Thompson for the amount of $100 for winning the first drawing associated with new membership. Delegates to the State Convention will include Mike Dec and Steven Albert. Alternates will be Nick Guarriello and Mark Welters. A motion was made and passed in approving these delegates and alternates. Expense checks of $200 for each delegate will be provided at the April meeting. Nick Guarriello brought forth the idea of doing something different for the State Convention. He asked if we would like to consider taking out an ad in the Convention Program. Mark Vodka made a motion to purchase a full page ad for the cost of $100. Nick Guarriello made a second to the motion. The motion passed. A motion was made by Nick Guarriello with a second by Cliff Atkinson to approve $500 for supporting seminarian Anthony Hoang of our parish in the RSVP program. The motion passed. The next Corporate Communion and Rosary will be on Sunday, March 29th at the 8:30 mass. The rosary will begin at 8:05 a.m. We are asking all Knights in attendance to wear their red KC jackets. 4TH DEGREE REPORT: All 4th Degree members are invited to a 4th Degree Exemplification at St. Henry’s in Gresham on March 21. The cost for candidates is $70, which will include dinner. DISTRICT DEPUTY REPORT Please, let’s continue our efforts to make our membership goal. We need five more members for this fiscal year to achieve our goal. Nick Guarriello has added an additional incentive of $10 and a hosted dinner at his house for anyone who recruits a new member.
