Kobus was a full time student at the Department of Architecture, University of the Free State where he obtained his BArch Degree with exemplary marks. I had the pleasure of being his lecturer for the final year of his BArch Degree.

His interest and enthusiasm in architecture is clearly portrayed in his strong conceptual approaches to design that are expansively developed into plausible architecture for final presentations. Kobus showcases a rare commodity that pushes the boundaries of his designs. Design together with the necessary research results in interesting and exciting projects. His presentations are executed with an exquisite graphic ability that allows him to properly communicate his ideas to lecturers through an impressive body of work.

As regards to character and personality Kobus responds well to constructive criticism and utilises the time available in studio to the fullest extent. He is courteous and relaxed with both his fellow students and his lecturers, and his personality and attitude as much as his ability as a designer will make him an asset to the architectural profession.

His graphic skills in multi-media was showcased in the Des Baker competition as well as the PG Bison competition. The BloemBuild Cad Design challenge presented another example of his ability. Worth mentioning is that the external moderator Nico Botes awarded Kobus the highest mark in his year group for Design (DESN3700).

I have no hesitation in recommending Kobus for any position for which he applies.

In November 2015 Mr. Kobus Spangenberg (Student no. 2006012922) successfully completed his academic year to obtain his B. Arch. - Degree as a full time student in the Department of Architecture at the University of the Free State, South Africa.

I lectured Kobus in the Construction and Design studio modules of 2014 and 2015 where he showed great interest in the study field and proved himself as an exceptional and dedicated designer and technologist. He showed great interest in design thinking in sustainability. He was creative in his methods and his arguments were based on findings. I met Kobus a few years ago whilst set out a on a farm at the back of beyond in the Kalahari. Although setting down the outline of a home is a serious matter with a continuous process of checks and re-checks, the inborn sense of humour from Kobus helped to generate a pleasurable but not careless atmosphere.

At this time, 2012, Kobus just graduated from a Graphic Design , but enjoyed the hands-on world of Architecture so much that he physically

himself. Creative, interactive decision making within the building process taught him more about the design and technology process than the purely academic study of these anchor subjects in Architecture.

His academic career therefore took off an eager quest for knowledge. have regularly been together and shared moments of intense intellectual

discussion especially within our shared passion for matters architectural.

In my opinion Kobus will become a formidable academic-practitioner with a meaningful future.
