Constructing Pieced Blocks

1. Sew together (1) Fabric A HST A, and (1) <batik> HST A (both cut from 2⅞” squares) to make (1) HST Unit.

2. Add to the right and bottom of previously made HST Unit: (2) Fabric A HST, followed by (1) <batik> HST B. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 1½ A square. Add to the bottom-right corner of the previously made unit. Sew on the diagonal, trim ¼” from sewn line and press outwards to make (1) Block Quadrant. Make a total of (4) Block Quadrants.

3. Sew quadrants together to make (1) pieced block.

4. Make a total number of pieced blocks with the following <batik>:

(5) blocks: I and J

(4) blocks: B and D

(3) blocks: C, F, H and K

(2) blocks: G

Quilt Center Assembly

5. Diagonal pieced rows.

Arrange and sew together pieced blocks, setting triangles and 1½” x 8½” sashing rectangles to make diagonal pieced rows. Use the diagram on Page 4 as a reference.

Rows 1 & 8 - (2) side setting triangles, (2) sashing rectangles, (1) pieced block.

Rows 2 & 7 - (2) side setting triangles, (4) sashing rectangles, (3) pieced blocks.

6. Sew together pieced rows and sashing strips in the following order:

(1) 1½” x 10½” A sashing strip, Row 1, (1) 1½” x 28½” A sashing strip, Row 2, (1) 1½” x 46½” A sashing strip, Row 3, (1) 1½” x 64½” A sashing strip, Row 4, (1) 1½” x 72½” A sashing strip, Row 5, (1) 1½” x 64½” A sashing strip, Row 6, (1) 1½” x 46½” A sashing strip, Row 7, (1) 1½” x 28½” A sashing strip, Row 8, (1) 1½” x 10½” A sashing strip.

Add (2) corner setting triangles to the top left and bottom right to complete quilt center, measuring approximately 51¼” x 64” raw edge to raw edge.

Quilt Top Assembly

7. Inner border #1. Sew (2) 2” x 65¾” A strips to the left and right sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 2” x 56” A strips to the top and bottom of quilt center.

8. Inner border #2. Sew (2) 2½” x 68¾” E strips to the opposite long sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 2½” x 60” E strips to the remaining opposite short sides of quilt center.

9. Inner border #3. Sew (2) 1½” x 72¾” A strips to the opposite long sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 1½” x 62” A strips to the remaining opposite short sides of quilt center.

10. Outer border. Sew (2) 3½” x 74¾” J strips to the opposite long sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 3½” x 68” J strips to the remaining opposite short sides of quilt center to complete quilt top.

Finishing

11. With the backing fabric laying taut, place batting and then quilt top to form quilt sandwich.

12. Baste sandwich. Quilt as desired.

13. Bind with Fabric B to finish quilt.
