Principal’s Message
Children will be formed by influences that can be visibly observed not only in their fashion choices and behaviour but also in ways that aren't always clear from the outside. A child’s school will therefore shape them. The values of their teachers, how they explain the world to students and the student’s personal response goes on to shape the community they are a part of. Looking at how children will be taught, and who teaches them about who they ‘are’, will in turn form how they see and treat others.
A Christian Worldview
Strathalbyn Christian College is committed to the process of educating and teaching from an age-old, yet ageless perspective and process, not unlike the pickling process. The distinct flavour taken on during pickling, due to the added ingredients, goes deep into the core of the learner, a change process that takes place over time. Each individual brings uniqueness to the vinegar and cannot resist being influenced to the very core. A worldview is shaped in time through experience and we then act out of our individual worldview. In schooling, a worldview is shaped by the dominant influences in the student’s life, hour by hour, day by day, week upon week, and year by year. For every parent this reality is profoundly important to consider. It is a huge responsibility to understand the vinegar your child is pickling in, and how experiences and influences shape us all.
Under the lordship of Jesus Christ, we are called “not to conform to the patterns of the world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds” Romans 12:2. It was 40 years ago that the founders of Geraldton Christian Community School, as it was first known, sought to take control of the vinegar of education for their children. They established a school that enabled them to have greater choice over what influenced their children, which is every parent’s right. It was no small decision for the founding families, who considered the dominant cultural forces that were shaping their children at that time. They decided to step out in faith, mortgage their homes and established a school with a mandate of education that is aligned with the Christian values they lived out at home. 40 years on, we celebrate the great story that is “Learning God’s way”.

Earn & Learn Woolworth Promotion
Thank you to all the parents and friends of the College
who participated in the Earn & Learn Sticker Promotion
conducted by Woolworths. This year we had three boxes
– two of which were at the two Woolworths Stores and
one at the College. We collected well over 12,000 stickers.
This was an amazing effort!
This was a fantastic number of stickers which allowed the
College to select items that will assist teaching in the Early
Learning Years and the Inclusive Education area.
Thank you for participating and help our school.
Nurture – Sonya Bandy Geraldton – Beverley Hanrahan
Silent Art Auction – Pieces on Display in the Front Office
As part the 40th Anniversary Celebrations we will be holding a Silent Art Auction on
the night of the Gala Dinner (Saturday 21 September). Commissioned artwork has
already started to come in and the pieces are amazing.
I have featured two artists above – Sonya Bandy, Alumni of Strath and Parent has
created a beautiful painting called Nurture. It’s a circular canvas, with large hands
surrounding a little seed.
Beverley Hanrahan, former Teacher at SCC and artist has painted a modern
landscape featuring all the iconic landmarks of Geraldton. This painting has multiple
aspects and a depth to it which can only be appreciated when you take the time to
look closely at the piece.
Come in and see the other works that have been commissioned for the Gala Dinner.
