KotoriCon Policies

It is very important that all individuals read and understand the following policies. Anyone who attends KotoriCon is expected to follow all rules.

Disruptive Behavior Policy The Gloucester County College Japanese Anime Guild works hard to ensure that KotoriCon takes place in a safe, family-friendly environment, which requires individual cooperation. All policies address specifics such as weapons, props and lost children. The primary policy of KotoriCon is that disruptive behavior of any sort will not be tolerated, and staff members can and will take action when something is deemed dangerous or disruptive. Consequences range from a quiet but stern word in private to forcible ejection from the convention. The sorts of things that may trigger such action include fighting (fake or real), heckling, impeding traffic flow, offensive behavior, failure to observe basic hygiene, public inebriation (or similar intoxication), or any other failure to follow the rules and directions of staff members. Please show common courtesy to your fellow otaku, and follow the rules, and there’s no problem.

Smoking GCC has designated smoking areas outside. No smoking is allowed beyond these areas—especially near the doorways.

Line Etiquette Please remember that following the directions of staff members will make the lines smoother for everyone! Individuals caught cutting in line will be sent to the rear of that line. Individuals will not be allowed to hold places in line for other guests. Lines cannot block entrances or exits, so leave a gap in front of the door.

Camera Usage The usage of photographic devices is prohibited within certain areas of the convention, including video screenings and of artists tables. Prohibited devices include, but are not limited to: cameras (both film and digital), cellular phones or camcorders.

Photographing Guests at KotoriCon Participating individuals have the right to maintain their privacy. All convention members are asked to refrain from photographing guests if he or she would prefer not to have his or her picture taken. Guests will join con-goers for a photo opportunity if they choose to have their picture taken. When stopping to take photographs in the hallways, please be considerate of fellow members by being brief and not blocking traffic.

Signs at KotoriCon No signs are permitted except for those that are an established part of a costume. (The sign must be part of the standard “look” of the character, such as that carried by Genma the Panda.)

Signs in violation of this policy will be confiscated. Repeat offenders will be considered in violation of the Disruptive Behavior Policy.

Please note that this policy applies to all types of signs, regardless of construction. KotoriCon staff decisions regarding signs are final. Children at KotoriCon A parent or guardian must accompany all children under the age of 12 at all times. Anyone under 16 attending KotoriCon must come with an adult 18 or older who has their own ticket. KotoriCon is a family friendly event with programming for ages 13 and up. This policy is to ensure the safety of the younger attendees. Children are required to carry some form of written identification and parent/guardian contact information with them at all times so that KotoriCon staff may contact the parents or guardians should the need arise.

Recommendations Here are some suggestions for keeping children safe:

Please do not leave children unattended at KotoriCon.• Make sure children know important information, such • as their parent/guardian’s name and what he or she is wearing; a cellular phone number and a home phone number. If a child is lost, staff members will make every attempt to contact chaperones through this information. It is a good idea to set up a meeting place and time for • children older than 12. In case a chaperone cannot find a child at the designated meeting place, or cannot establish contact, please notify the KotoriCon Registration Desk.

Behavior with Weapons/PropsMisuse of a weapon or prop, such as swinging it in a public area • or posing a hazard to others, will result in the prop being deemed unsafe for the convention. Thus, an individual will be asked to remove the item from the convention center. All props and weapons brought into the convention must • be inspected and either approved or rejected by KotoriCon staff, including items that may have had prior approval (other conventions, previous conventions, or pre-convention approval by KotoriCon staff).Any item that poses a potential safety hazard may need to be • removed from the convention. This includes any costume, prop or accessory that obstructs doors or hallways, or otherwise poses any kind of danger to other attendees, staff or convention center property. When in doubt, check with KotoriCon staff. Also please note that • just because a staff member has not stopped to check an item does not mean that the it is allowed.

Masks at KotoriConMasks are not permitted except for those that are an established part of a costume. For security purposes, all attendees who wish to wear a mask will be asked to pose in front of the security camera with their mask off and on. When in doubt, check with KotoriCon staff. The staff appreciates individual willingness to smile for the cameras!

Body PaintAll Body Paint must be sealed properly. You will be required to check with KotoriCon staff to ensure you are using the proper body paint and sealant.

Field Guide

The KotoriCon Field Guide to FandomsBy I. C. Kotoris

“Brony” a fan of the popular HUB show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. They have markings on their hindquarters known as ‘cutie marks’ which seem to show a pastime they enjoy. Many enjoy parties, some enjoy flight, and others enjoy the simple pleasures of a book.

“Whovian” a fan of the popular show Doctor WHO. They tend to have a fascination with blue boxes and carry screwdrivers. They hail from a planet far away, though most sound as if they hail from acrossthe pond.

“Homestucker” a fan of the popular web comic Homestuck. They identify each other with an array of pictograms placed on their shirts from skulls to what appear to be zodiac signs. Some have large horns and grey skin, others look almost… human.

“Bender” a fan of the popular Nickelodeon show Legend of Korra. They seem to have deep roots connected to Avatar: The Last Airbender. I’ve learned that recently there have been some talks ofmaking the fandom all ‘equal’, though many seem opposed to the idea and suggest they should find peace with the spirits.

“Adventurer” a fan of the popular Cartoon Network show Adventure Time. They tend to be happy-go-lucky by nature, and are not afraid to jump into a fight. They enjoy strange foods such as bacon pancakes and everything burritos, but also enjoy simple treats like candy. One thing is for certain, they always seem to know what time it is.

“LARPer” an enthusiast of Live Action Role Playing or LARPing. They tend to come from another world and gather in large groups to do battle.

“OC” a rare creature only known as an Original Character. Not much is known of these characters as a whole, but is best described as something unique.

“Gamer” a fan of all things digital media. They tend to thrive in dark places and enjoy the company of some form of computer or console, but have been known to gather in groups in the KotoriCon Game Rooms.

“Super” a fan of any Superhero themed work. Many have been divided into the house Marvel and house DC, but for the most part tend to co-exist peacefully. Unless you mention Deadpool, whateverthat is.

KotoriCon is organized by students of the Gloucester County College Japanese Anime Guild to raise money to contribute to charity. Funds are raised directly from the entry tickets, fees paid by Artists and Dealers and all bids from the Charity Auction. The auction items are donated by the generosity of the Artists, Dealers and other conventions. Generous bids on unique items show how big hearted attendees are! KotoriCon staff wants to recognize its performers, voice actors and bands, who decline their appearance fees to allow the money to go to charity. Gloucester County College also supports the efforts by providing the facilities, security and technology to KotoriCon. Please support the charities with proceeds from KotoriCon 2014:
