Greg CipesWhen he’s not busy being a professional surfer, dabbling in organic gardening, playing music with his band, or generally fighting for the forces of good in the universe, Greg Cipes is actually the voice of the loveable green changeling known simply as Beast Boy on Cartoon Network’s Teen Titans (a role which he reprises on the currently-airing Teen Titans GO!). He met Ciro Nieli when he landed his first voice acting role ever on the original Teen Titans, and the two still work together today on Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Greg provides the voice of Michelangelo). Despite all that this self-proclaimed “goofball” has done with his career however, Greg is by no means a difficult person to find: it is believed that he will make planetfall at KotoriCon to host a panel, give autographs to all of his adoring fans and he might even agree to sing for us if we ask nicely enough!

Michele Knotz It is said that Michele Knotz hails from a distant, faraway planetoid called “New Jersey.” You may have heard of her from a little-known anime series by the name of Pokémon, where she continues to voice Team Rocket’s Jessie in the show’s SEVENTEENTH season. Pokémon seems to be something of a trend for Michele, as she has also lent her voice to May, Nurse Joy, The

Pokédex, Misty and many of the creatures themselves at different points before the show’s fourteenth season — and that’s not mentioning the work she has done for some of the video games in the franchise (and Super Smash Bros.)! Sources have reported sightings outside of Pokémon too: it is speculated that she has performed as Hajime Yagi in The World of Narue, Potaru Tanaka and Inumi in Magical Witch Punie-Chan, and even as Alisa Bosconovitch and Roll in Capcom’s Street Fighter X Tekken (wait, that’s not all?!). To see all of Michele’s credits (which are quite numerous), check out her website at http://micheleknotz.com/

Ciro NieliAs a lifelong fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, Ciro Nieli is no stranger to animation (or the extraterrestrial). Believe it or not, Ciro got his start as a revisionist storyboard artist on Family Guy, moving right on to another project called Teen Titans (where he may or may not have met a certain other KotoriCon-

attending voice actor we know) soon afterward. While it is certainly true that he has never had trouble finding work, Ciro currently enjoys living a long-standing dream: executive producing Nickelodeon’s most recent incarnation of (you guessed it!) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — which began airing in 2012 and was recently renewed for a fourth season back in June.

Lisle Wilkerson While she has been known to use a pair of bright-pink boxing gloves to protect the cosmos from danger, Lisle Wilkerson is best-known as the powerhouse behind some of video gaming’s most popular characters: Nina Williams and Christie Monteiro from the Tekken franchise, and Sarah Bryant from Virtua Fighter (just to list a couple you may know). Though she grew up in Tokyo (where she learned to speak

fluent Japanese), Lisle is currently based in Los Angeles, where she lives with her jet-setting cat, Princess Genki, and makes her way doing freelance work. Before she moved to the U.S. in 2008, Lisle worked with all the major radio and television stations in Japan — and she even continues to work with many of them in some capacity to this day! Other credits include a part in the Academy-Award-winning film Lost in Translation, and her first principal role in the critically-acclaimed indie film Kamataki some years later.

Jamie McGonnigal Jamie McGonnigal came to the first KotoriCon in 2010 when we were small and unknown. Jamie is a voice actor, actor, producer, activist and director. You have heard his voice in anime, video games including Barry in Pokémon and several voices in YuGiOh. He is the Community Director for the New Organizing Institute and a blogger for HuffingtonPost.com. He has been a driving force in campaigning for equality.

Sonny StraitYou know him, you love him, and he’s going to join us at KotoriCon 2015: it’s Sonny Strait! We all fondly remember him as the indomitable Krillin from Dragonball Z, but did you know that his favorite character in the history of ALL media (and the basis for Krillin’s voice) is Popeye the Sailor? Whether he’s braving the high seas as Usopp in One Piece or blowing himself up as the titular ’Splosion Man, Sonny continues to enjoy a prolific career as a voice actor (and his credits really are too many to list here). In addition to embracing his theatre roots, Sonny is a published comic book artist with over twenty years of experience in the arts. Surely someone with so storied a background in the industry would be rife with tales of adventures and struggles survived, but will experience be enough to prepare such a person for the out-of-this-world journey that is KotoriCon?

voice actors

chuck huberKotoriCon has so much star-power this year that we even managed to unlock a secret character: DePaul University alumni and Chicago son Chuck Huber! For all of you villains and anti-heroes out there, Chuck got his start in Anime Voice Acting by lending his dulcet tones to Garlic Jr. and Android 17 in Dragonball Z. From that launchpad his career blasted off into the stars, giving him the opportunity to voice hundreds of characters, with Hiei in Yu Yu Hakusho, Stein in Soul Eater, Mohji in One Piece and Shou Tucker in Full Metal

Alchemist just coming off the top of our heads. And if his voice acting resume (which even includes video games like Borderlands II) wasn’t enough, he also served as a writer on Hetalia and Sgt. Frog (where he provided voice work as well), and Baccano to name a few. Outside of anime and video games, Chuck was heavily involved in the production of Arbor Day — The Musical, in addition to other productions in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and the movie Parkland, produced by Tom Hanks.

Scott melzerScott is the head writer and director of the anime fan parody group NoN.D.E. Fanfilms. Scott grew up on Speed Racer and Star Blazers, having no idea of the shows’ origins. In college he learned the truth: they were Japanese and there were uncut versions of these shows! And there were conventions! Rabid otakunization soon followed. In 2001, he tried his hand at directing fan parodies, and the homage to fans and fandom This Is Otakudom was the result, followed by S.T.E.A.M.: The Movie in 2005 and Fanboy Soze in 2011. Scott is currently developing his fourth film and spreads the joy of parodies by showing screenings of Abridged shows

and Fan Parodies at cons along the east coast. He’ll also be helping out at the Mystic Realms Danger Room so come by!

501stThe Legion seeks to promote interest in Star Wars through the building and wearing of quality costumes, and to facilitate the use of these costumes for Star Wars-related events as well as contributions to the local community through costumed charity and volunteer work.

Dragon jediCome and join Dragon Jedi in a display of spectacular lightsaber fight choreography! Watch epic duels unfold as the Jedi and Sith battle for peace, power and complete supremacy! They are also doing a panel to learn how they use the force.

HUBBLE’S TECHNICOLOR UNIVERSEThe spectacular pictures from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope have unveiled a universe of discordant objects that look more exciting, vibrant, and intimate to people than ever before in the history of astronomy. Phenomena that were once restricted to the imagination can now be displayed in vivid color and texture. The space telescope captures light as well as invisible radiation from objects located far away and far back into time. These data are converted into color images that reveal far more than what out feeble eyes can ever see. The rich data available in Hubble observations capture not just the appearance of a celestial object, but its essence. Presented by Ray Villard of the Space Telescope Science Institute.

Surfing the Milky Way What can one see of our own galaxy from our suburban back yards? What components make up our galaxy and are the observable with basic astronomy gear? Learn about what can get you started in observational astronomy and what are some highlights to look for throughout the year. Compare what can be seen of the Milky Way in the summer vs. the winter night sky. Presented by Ted Williams of the Rittenhouse Astronomical Society.

ARE WE ALONE?We have discovered over 1500 planets orbiting other stars. How are they like Earth and how are they different? How will we determine if they are inhabited? How abundant are Earth-like plates in the galaxy? This is the 55th anniversary of the search for intelligent life in space. Why haven’t we come in contact with any alien civilizations yet? Are we truly alone or simply ignorant at understanding the role of life in the universe? Presented by Ray Villard of the Space Telescope Science Institute.

Special Guestscharles dunbarCharles Dunbar has been a fan of all things geeky since he discovered Star Trek and Dungeons and Dragons back in 1994. It was this love of fantasy, folklore and video games that inspired him to pursue studies in anthropology and religion as an undergraduate at Hunter College, where he eventually earned a Master’s Degree in cultural anthropology. He has written extensively about fandom dynamics and the changing culture of anime conventions, blending together a love of teaching with his training in human societal history. Since 2009, Charles has been lecturing at universities, libraries, conventions and on countless podcasts. This year he will host two panels at KotoriCon, covering aspects of sacred Japanese culture, mythology, history, fandom, conventions and whatever other topics might strike his fancy.

DeadStarDeadstar is an animated science fiction adventure that follows Harrison, a man battling an underground drug syndicate to steal a rare, endangered flower. The flower may hold a key to world’s future, and to Harrison’s redemption. I animate the entire show on my Mac computer at home, using the animation program, Blender. I cast the voice actors through free voice over sites, and they send me their recordings through email. I decided to start this show after being a huge otaku for many years, starting with of course Dragonball Z. Although many of the

scenes and characters are influenced from animes like Black Lagoon, Akira and Ninja Scroll. I began developing the series in September 2011, and the first episode was released on October 21, 2012. I’m currently in the middle of the second season, in the middle of animating the tenth episode.

U.S.S kotoricon crew

Thank you for coming to KotoriCon. For your safety, we run a Con-Operations Office in the Instructional Center throughout the event. If at any point you are concerned or feel ill, please stop by Con-Ops and see if we can help you! Our volunteers are wearing light purple KotoriCon t-shirts with CREW written on the back. Stop any volunteer for help!

The information tables at KotoriCon are located in the JAG Club Office in the College Center, and at the Registration Table in Health Sciences. You can go there to get a program or guide sheet, ask directions or any other kind of help you may need.

We look forward to seeing you again next year!

Want to look up a performer or vendor? You can check out the website at KotoriCon.org for links not found in this program.

Provide feedback after the Con on our Facebook page or by emailing

[email protected]

Thank you, Susan Glenn, KotoriCon Chair
