’nGeskil oor ’nboetewat vierKoukammaDA-raadslede opgelê is ná hulle ’n spesiale raads-vergadering vroeër vandeesmaand verlaathet, het Vrydag byna in ’n vuisgeveg ontaard.

IT seems that things are getting so outof hand for Koukamma Councillors, that they will henceforth receive spe-cial risk insurance.

In addition to their total remunera-tion package, themunicipalitywill nowhave to take out a special risk insurancecover for all councillors.According toKoukammamayor, Sam

Vuso, the objective of this insurance isto provide for the loss of or damage toa councillor’s property, assets, life ordisability arising from any riot, civilunrest, strike or public disorder.“It is the responsibility of the council-

lor to provide all necessary details tothe municipality regarding their prop-erty or assets to be covered by the spe-cial risk insurance. Failure by the coun-cillor to complywith thiswill lead to theexclusion of that councillor’s propertyor assets from the cover.”In the event that the councillor has al-

ready got sufficient cover, he or shewillbe reimbursed by Council.

KOUGA Municipality is investigating strict-er regulations and policing of the KrommeRiver following a spate of complaints aboutboat users endangering the lives of people us-ing or living on the banks of the river.

The municipality this week issued a letterto boat owners, stating that it had beenbrought to the attention of the Kouga Councilby the Joint Kromme River Committee that“many boat owners are either ignorant or dis-missive of the municipal by-laws concerningthe use of leisure craft on the river”.Municipal Manager Sidney Fadi said the

complaints had left the Council with littlechoice but to investigatemore stringent regu-lations andpolicing of the river to help ensurethe safety of other river users.“There has been a dramatic increase in the

number of leisure craft using the Kromme

River and its estuary over the past few years. The flooding of the Sand River has further ledto the silting up of the river which, in turn, has caused the narrowing of navigable chan-nels, especially at low tide,” he said.“We urgently request all boat users to ad-

here to regulations. Your cooperation and as-sistance in ensuring that the river is usedsafely and responsibly will alleviate the needfor drastic measures to be introduced.”He said additional measures that were be-

ing considered, were the re-zoning of the riverfor the use of certain activities such as skiing, the banning of certain types of craft in certainareas or sections of the river, due to erosionof river banks and destruction of environ-ment, and the complete banning of certaintypes of craft, such as jet propulsion craft, which are already banned in most rivers inSouth Africa.

RECENT weeks have seen a slight increasein the theft of valuable bicycles in the JeffreysBay area.“We urge residents to bemore vigilantwith

regard to the safe keeping of their property,”says Jeffreys Bay Police Station Commander,Micheal Solani.“Community members are requested to en-

sure that their valuables, especially portableproperty like bicycles, are locked up whenthey are not in use. It is apparent that crimi-nal elements focus on these items as they areeasy to move and sell.”The Police will focus on the compliance of

second hand dealers with the law, but he callson the public not to create amarket for stolengoods.“We are aiding and abetting criminals by

buying stolen goods. Residents must not buyitems such as plasma screens, CD players and

electrical equipment, which criminals targetduring housebreakings, without enquiringwhether they were obtained in a legal way.”Safety tips.Be crime conscious and aware of crime op-portunities at all times,.Stay alert at all times,.Get involved with crime prevention initia-tives,.Double check to ensure that all doors includ-ing security and garage doors are locked atall times and that windows are closed whenyou are inside or not at home..Consider keeping pets like large dogs whousually serve as a deterrent to potentialthieves,.When leaving your residence, inform yourfamily or neighbours of your intended desti-nation, including the time you expect to re-turn.

It is a chapter in my life that I quit, butit also marks the beginning of an excitingnew chapter in my life. I’m not going to bea housewife.

WE look after our bodies, skin and hair, allin the name of good health. But, whatwe oftenoverlook and neglect are the most delicateand important organs, our eyes.

Eyes are precious and we only have onepair in our lifetime, so it makes good senseto look after them to the best of our ability.Unfortunately, aswe age, so do our eyeswhenthere is a very real chance of developing cata-racts or age-related macular degeneration(AMD).The goodnews is that there arewayswe can

help to improve and maintain our eyes.NRF VisionVite contains vitamin C plus

two essential nutrients, lutein and zeaxan-thin, which are found in green leafy vegeta-bles and eggs. These nutrients can help re-duce the risk of age relatedmacular degenera-tion and cataracts by improving thecirculation of blood to the eye.Carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin are de-

posited in high quantities in the retina andthey help to filter harmful high-energy bluewavelengths of light and act as antioxidantsin the eye which in turn help protect andmaintain healthy cells. Many studies have shown that lutein and

zeaxanthin also help reduce the risk of chron-ic eyediseases, includingage-relatedmaculardegeneration (AMD) and cataracts. Daily in-take of lutein and zeaxanthin through diet, nutritional supplements, or fortified foodsand beverages is important for the mainte-nance of good eye health..NRFVisionVite is available fromDis-Chemand pharmacies in packs of 30 tablets for R92.

dood”.

mansdorp by ’n vierrigtingstop gekaap.

Welkom by House Rhino, Suid-Afrika seeerste 100% groenhuis, opgerig by die Cross-ways Farm Village buite Port Elizabeth.

THE best junior surfers in the country willbe heading to Lower Point in Jeffreys Bayfor the second edition of the RVCA JuniorSurfing Challenge in the beginning of May.The perfect waves, synonymous with Jef-freys Bay, the home of RVCA, will be the can-vas for the talented junior surfers of ourcountry to showcase their skills and talent, and have three days of fun in the process.

“We are very excited to bring this event backto Jeffreys Bay,” said RVCA South Africa’s Ar-no Lane. “Apart from all the high action surf-ing that goes down, there is such a great vibedown here at the Lower Point, and all the kidshang out and have such a cool weekend. Thereare loads of activities and things to do, andwe’re looking at having an RVCA - style partywith some live bands down here as well.”

Entries are open on the Surfing South Afri-

ca website atwww.surfingsouthafrica.co.za.There are a limited number of entries. Lastyear saw a full house of 120 entries, and youdon’t want to miss out.

“Surfing South Africa is stoked to onceagain be sanctioning and supporting the RV-CA Junior Contest in Jeffrey’s Bay thisyear,” said Surfing South Africa GeneralManager Robin De Kock. “Last year’s inau-gural event was a massive success and the2014 edition looks set to be even bigger. Jun-ior surf contests are the lifeblood of our sport. Not only do they give a platform to South Af-rica’s most talented boys and girls across fiveage groups, but they also give up and comingsurfers the chance to perform on a nationalstage. In addition, Lower Point in J Bay iswhere it will all happen. Top surfers, new-comers, an iconic venue, this contest has itall. In every respect the RVCA Junior contest

ticks all the boxes.”The divisions are boys u.10, u.12, u.14, u.16

and u.20, and girls u.14 and u.20. The eventhas a two Star PST rating.

There will also be a Nixon Weird Boardcontest in amongst the fun. Eight surfboardshapers from around the country weretasked with shaping a weird board, to besurfed off by the junior surfers in a fun mini-event during the main event. Thys Strydom,Eric Stedman, Glen D’Arcy, Glen Rowe, An-ton Butler, Dutchie, Simon Fish and DavidStubbs all contributed the weirdness.

The RVCA Junior Surfing Contest is sanc-tioned by Surfing South Africa. SurfingSouth Africa is a member of the South Afri-can Sports Confederation and Olympic Com-mittee (SASCOC), and recognised by theDept. of Sport and Recreation as the nationalcontrolling body for surfing.
