These are some of the facts to emerge from the municipality’s response to a petition sub- mitted by the Jeffreys Bay Residents Associa- tion in February. The colour of the tap water in sections of Wavecrest was a key issue highlighted in the petition, linked to concerns that there was no plan in place to address the matter. In its response the municipality gives resi- dents the assurance that it is attending to the discolouration of water. A consultant and contractor have been appointed, in partner- ship with the Department of Water and Sani- tation (DWAS), to conduct chemical tests and install a pilot dosing plant at the Jeffreys Bay Water Treatment Works. The results will be used to determine the best long-term solution. While the tap water already complies with quality standards, the municipality has also, with the assistance of DWAS, appointed a con- tractor to rehabilitate the existing boreholes in order to obtain better quality water. “...tests are performed by accredited labora- tories... All tests are available and are report- ed monthly to Council and will in future also be placed on the website,” the municipality states in its response. A second key concern raised in the petition was the electrical infrastructure of Jeffreys Bay. In its response the municipality states that a new electrical cable, about 1km in length, is to be installed in Wavecrest at a cost of more than R1-million to serve as an additional back-up should problems be experienced on any of the three lines serving the area. Maintenance of electrical infrastructure takes place within the constraints of the oper- ating budget,” the response continues. Up- grades that have taken place over the past four years have included a new 22kV overhead line between the main substation and Apiesdraai, the installation of an additional 10MVA, 66/22kV transformer and switchgear at the main substation and the refurbishment of the 22kV overhead line serving the water works, waste water treatment works and farm areas. Also addressed in the municipality’s re- sponse are concerns about sewerage spills at pump stations. Four of the 26 sewer pump sta- tions located in Jeffreys Bay have been up- graded over the past year while a process plan is being developed to secure additional back- up generators to prevent sewerage spills from occurring when there is an interruption of the electrical supply, including loadshedding. Other matters addressed include waste management, cleansing, refuse removal, road maintenance, law enforcement, public en- gagement, transparency, accountability and customer care. Residents are encouraged to view the full response on the municipality’s website at www.kouga.gov.za. Kouga responds to residents’petition For Don Thompson, a long time radio-controlled model aircraft enthusiast, the sky is the limit. To him, the perfect weather condition means fun in the sky. However, there is one problem. “I retired to Aston Bay from Mpumulanga in December 2014, and as a keen radio-control aircraft pilot I was a little surprised to find out that there is no facility for enthusiasts of this hobby to practise and have some fun,” says Thompson. Radio controlled flying is a nationally recognized sport for which national colours are awarded and Springbok pilots take part in the various categories of the sport at international competitions. “It is one of those activities that absorb a person completely, particularly for those of us who enjoy building and flying their own models,” says Thompson who has been flying since 1974. “It would be wonderful if someone can make a piece of land available for the practice of this hobby. All we need is a 80m to 100m flat and level runway, preferably not in a residential area.” Thompson can be contacted at 072 404 3655. PHOTO:MONIQUE BASSON Hooked on radio controlled aircrafts

Dít alles ter voorbereiding van die opko-mende State of the Municipality Address la-ter vandeesmaand.

FANCY meeting a new Fat Bastard?

Fat Bastard, the well-loved, delicious, full-bodied range of wines, has two new Fat Bas-tards in the pod and two Kouga Express read-ers stand a chance to take home aFatBastard.

The new kids on the block are a soft, juicy, rich and rounded ruby-coloured Merlot ooz-ing ripe berries, and a gorgeous salmon pinkPinot Noir Rosé which is dry, yet smooth andcreamy and bursting with fruit.

The name might be fun, but the wine is seri-ous. In addition to the Merlot and Pinot NoirRosé, this high-quility, fruit-driven, rich andround, food-friendly range of wines include aSauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir,Pinotage, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.

When Thierry and Guy first created thesedelicious wines, they did it with gusto. Theypoured their hearts, souls and great dollopsof generosity into every bottle.

In fact, it was a great big discovery - in wine-making terms - that led to the name Fat Bas-tard. It comes from having left the wines onthe lees for a lot longer than usual, which al-lowed it to develop more fully and completely, and when tasted, there was simply no other

way to describe it other than: “Well, nowthat’s a fat bastard!”

This tradition of creating full-bodied winesto be enjoyed with bellyfuls of laughs andgood-natured cheer continues today. Robert-son Winery’s winemakers give nothing shortof their all when meticulously nurturing theFatBastards to perfection. Whether it’s a cele-bration, akuieror a come-on-over, there’s aFatBastard (or two) waiting to be opened.

The Fat Bastard Merlot was made fromcarefully selected grapes with the aim to pro-duce ripe-flavoured and silky textured wine. All fruit was de-stemmed, gently pressed andwhole berry fermented to retain fruit aromasand character. The wine was aged in smalloak barrels for 16 months, which added great-er weight and complexity. This wine has adeep ruby colour and ripe berry aromas lead-ing to a juicy palate of blackberries, plumsand black cherries, with soft, rounded tan-nins.

The Fat Bastard Pinot Noir Rosé, madefrom carefully selected grapes grown in lime-stone rich soils, were gently cold-pressed toextract the lovely salmon pink colour. Enti-cing ripe sweet strawberry and watermelon

R332, with the 68km section between Cambriaand Geelhoutbos only accessible to 4x4 or 2x4“high-rider” vehicles. It is a narrow, windingroad throughmountain passes and river cross-ings. The route, also known as the T1 Route, leads through thehistoric towns ofHankey andPatensie, along the lush green Gamtoos ci-trusproducing valley, through the Komdomo en-trance, followed by the breathtaking Grootri-vier Poort into the Cambria basin.
