Bridge Engineering

Hilgard Interchange, La Grande, Oregon This bridge is one example of the multiple projects designed by KPFF through ODOT’s OTIA III State Bridge Delivery Program. This 145-ft single span steel plate girder structure has integral abutments and is constructed at a high skew to minimize the bridge’s overall length. The bottom flanges and webs of the plate girders have parabolic curvature for aesthetics.

Broadway Bridge Load Balancing, Portland, ORKPFF provided engineering analyses needed to keep this 90-year-old Rall Wheel bascule bridge operational throughout two separate renovation projects. Balance adjustments allowed existing machinery to raise the spans, even with up to 31,500 pounds of hazardous material containment installed.
