•Yang Guifei•Emperor Xuanzong•Timeline•Customs and Etiquette

Yang Guifei originally known as Yang Yuhuan, was the daughter of Yang Xuanyan, a census official in Sichuan. Yang Guifei is one of the four most beautiful women of ancient China. When she was sixteen years old, her father sent her into the palace to be a wife of Emperor Tang Xuanzong’s son. When she got into the palace, her beautiful appearance was known, after Emperor Tang Xuanzong heard of her. He wanted to see this girl, so he went to his son’s palace.

Once Emperor Xuangzong saw Yang Yuhuan,

he suddenly fell in love with her and welcomed her into

his palace. At that time, Xuanzong was 56 years old, and Yang was only 22 years

old. Yang Gufei was very clever and had talent in

music. She was also a fast learner. Emperor Xuanzong

was enchanted by Yang’s beauty and started to lose his

concentration on his kingdom.

Timeline of China

Meetings and

Greetings…

In

China,

greetings are

formal and the

oldest person is

always greeted

first. Four in an

unlucky number,

and eight is the

luckiest. If you are

invited to a

person’s house,

be sure to bring a

little gift. The host

usually offers the

first toast.

When giving a gift, do not give knives, scissors, clocks, handkerchiefs, straw sandals, or flowers. Chinese table manners are to use chopsticks. When people make slurping or burping sounds, don’t be offended, it just means they are enjoying their food. Two of the dialects in China are Mandarin and Cantonese.
