IEEE YESIST12 (YOUTH ENDEAVOURS FOR SOCIAL INNOVATION USING SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGY) (formerly SS12) is an international talent show for the students and young professionals to showcase their innovative ideas to solve humanitarian and social issues affecting directly the community around them. The first SS12 Asia was conducted in 2013 between two countries – India and Bangladesh. Now it has reached more than 9 countries touching about 2000 students and young professionals every year.

The theme now aligns with the Social innovation for sustainable technology and the format includes four tracks. The finals will be organised at Stamford International University, Bangkok, Thailand on 7th & 8th of September, 2019. YESIST12 aims to take the skill development to the next level by preparing the students to dream for the future through new technologies and new applications for creating a better society to live in. As a pilot Institute for IEEE YESIST12, the preliminary competition was held at Amrita School of

Engineering, Bengaluru on 28th June 2019. Mr. Prajwal gave a brief introduction about the event and

introduced the panel members.

Four teams had registered and had presented their innovative ideas and their prototype. The projects

were IOT based Low Cost Smart Dustbin, Generation of electricity by wind tree turbine,

Biomethanation Energy: a way to empower every Indian village. These projects were evaluated

by Dr. Navin Kumar, Ms. Sreebha Bhaskaran, Ms. Nalini S. and Ms. Pournamy. As an innovative project,

Generation of electricity by wind tree turbine by students of Rajarajeshwari College of

Engineering and IOT based Low Cost Smart Dustbin by students of Amrita School of

Engineering were nominated for the Maker Fair.
