AlumniInterview

James Chang (Global MBA, 8th Batch)/District Manager, Bank of AmericaBefore enrollment: Bank Center Manager, Bank of America (7 years)After graduation: Promoted through the Bank of America’s ‘MBA Leadership Development Program, receiving twice the previous annual income

I chose the Global MBA program at Korea University Business School because of the faculty’s research capabilities and networking opportunities. As a Korean American, I do not necessarily believe that the United States has the best in everything. Some of the factors that I found attractive about the program include the university’s highest rank among Korean universities according to the UTD (University of Texas-Dallas) business school research rankings, and the fact that KUBS has the largest number of faculty in Korea. Moreover, Korea University is well-known for its close alumni network. In addition to making connections with other MBA graduates, the fact that undergraduate, master’s, and doctorate students can come together as members of Korea University and build close relationships is one of the important reasons that influenced my choice. In fact, many Korean Americans, such as myself, are well aware of the MBA program at Korea University. It has a long history and its own unique culture, as well as strong relationships among graduates that I mentioned previously. I would also like to add that they have an excellent student exchange program. As an alumni, I can proudly say that I have no regret in choosing the KUBS Global MBA program.

Hyung Seung Yoo (Global MBA, 8th Batch) / Consultant at Ksight ConsultingBefore enrollment: 3 years production automation engineer at LG DisplayAfter graduation: Successfully changed career to a management consultant

Although I started my career as an engineer after graduating with a degree in science, I decided to go for the Global MBA program because I wanted a career change. I was drawn to the fact that I would be able to take various types of classes that are all offered in English, as well as the close connections and relationships among the graduates of Korea University, which I often noticed while working as an engineer. I personally believe that one of the most crucial elements of an MBA program is establishing connections with individuals working in different fields. In my case, I was able to gather information about the company that I currently work for through former classmates who were already working as consultants, which in turn helped in my job application process. Furthermore, the programs at the Career Hub were also very helpful in changing my career. In particular, I gained deeper insight through the mentoring program with alumni who were working in the consulting field that I was interested in, and was able to gain a broader perspective through multiple opportunities to meet with CEOs in my fields of interests. Personally meeting these CEOs to hear about their businesses has been a very special experience for me.

Hyun Dong Lee (Global MBA, 9th Batch)/ L’Oreal Korea Finance ControllerBefore enrollment: Graduated with a degree in Business Administration overseas with short-term experience as an intern After graduation: L’Oreal Korea Finance Controller

I enrolled in the Global MBA program in order to better understand business in Korea, establish connections through networking, and gain information overall. When compared to other universities, the Career Hub systematic organization and active support have been the most decisive factors that lead me to choose the Global MBA program at Korea University. For my current profession as a finance controller, finance, accounting, and strategy have been the most helpful subjects. Although my time at KUBS was short, I was able to concentrate on my studies by taking intensive courses, and also expand my academic scope through active discussions with my classmates and professors. I believe the reason for choosing an MBA and the lessons one takes away while completing the MBA program vary based on one’s goals and objectives. If you know exactly what you want to gain from the MBA program, then I can confidently tell you that Korea University’s Global MBA program is an excellent choice.
