Congratulatory Message

On behalf of Hitotsubashi University, it is with great pleasure that we will have the Asia Tri-lateral Forum with Korea University Business School (KUBS) and Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS). I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Forum Organizing Committee for their diligent work.Hitotsubashi University is a Japanese national university special-ized in social science and has a long tradition as a leading school in commerce and management since 1875. In order to cater to a broad range of demands in changing environments, our university will merge two business schools and establish a new school, Hitotsubashi University Business School (HUB), in April, 2018.In the situation mentioned above, it is an honor for us to develop relationships with two leading business schools in East Asia, KUBS and PHBS. Our university would like to foster constructive relationships with the two excellent institutions. An academic coopera-tion and exchange agreement with KUBS is the first step of the efforts. Both institutions pursue common interests in teaching and research by concluding this agreement. We are convinced that student exchanges, collaborative research projects, and any other academic exchanges will contribute to strengthening the relationship between KUBS and us.In the course of discussions on the above agreement, we have reached a conclusion that KUBS, PHBS, and our school should be continuously engaged in academic cooperation. This forum is the first event co-organized by the three business schools. I am excited to see that we have embarked on the new ambitious project. I hope that this collaboration will lead to further developing our academic research and contributing to local, regional, and global societies. This forum focuses on timely themes, and I believe all of you will agree that this forum is going to be productive and fruitful, provoking more discussions of corporate strategies in East Asia. We are confi-dent that a variety of academic exchanges among the three business schools as well as holding this kind of forum on a continuous basis can contribute to the development of the Asian Economy.

Congratulatory Message Dean of Hitotsubashi Dean of PHBS

Dear Colleagues,It is my great pleasure to meet you all at the Asia Tri-lat-eral seminar. China, Japan, and Korea has been neighbors for centuries and there are numerous issues that require discussion to deepen the understanding among the three countries. Thus, it is meaningful for the three top busi-ness schools representing each country to exchange views of the new development of business environments. Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS) was founded in 2004 with the intent to advance Peking University’s involvement in the global economics, finance, and management research and education. With its specific aim to become a truly internationalized busi-ness school, PHBS has been thriving in international collaboration and contribution to the business society. We are delighted to have this opportunity to further collaborate with Korea University Business School and Graduate School of Commerce and Management of Hitot-subashi University.I look forward to hearing what the most significant chal-lenges in business environments each country is facing, and what kind of solutions the academia can provide. Through such discussion, I hope we can learn from each other and further advance our collaboration.

Dear Dean Toyohiko Hachiya of Hitotsbashi, Dean Wen Hai of PHBS, and all seminar attendees,It is my great pleasure to welcome you to KUBS for the first annual opening of Asia Tri-lateral Seminar. It is truly an honor to host this meaningful event at KUBS. On this occasion, we will discuss the topic of ‘Corporate Strategies in China, Japan, and Korea in the New Normal Era’.The world has slipped into a period of sustained low economic growth and it has become difficult to foresee the future in regard to the dynamic changes of this era such as rising interest rates, fluctuations in exchange rates and fast advancement in ICT. Starting this year, Korea University Business School has held “KUBS Futurum” in order to gain some understandings of these trends. As “Futurum” stands for “Future” and “Forum”, the title implies its goal to discuss about the future. Through multiple sessions composing the Futurum, we aim to extract the main issues faced by the future economy and corporations and offer various insights. The seminar today is also arranged to provide the stage to understand and prepare solutions for a future scenario. This seminar is specifically meaningful in that Korea, China and Japan, which hold close economic ties with one another, come together to share strategies for the East Asian community. Along with the realistic problem analysis of the corporations of the three Asian nations, I expect this session will provide us with constructive solutions to accommodate the future planning and execution of corporate strategies. The Asia Tri-lateral Seminar can extend opportunities for the regional and world communities as the scholars from the best business schools of Korea, China and Japan combine their knowledge to seek and propose solutions to the real business cases. I hope that the seminar today will generate deep discussions on the ideal future direction of corporate strategies and further hope that it will contribute to establishing a foundation for East Asia’s reemergence. Thank you.
