that you are interested in what they are saying, and it is a sign of respect. Personal space is important to them. They like to keep a distance of about two to three feet between them and the person they are talking to. Americans tend to speak in a direct, informal manner. They like to get to the point quickly. This can be surprising for people who have a more indirect style of communication. If you go to a meeting, arrive on time or even a few minutes earlier. Americans value punctuality. There probably will not be much small talk at the start of the meeting. Agendas for meetings are common and usually followed carefully. Most Americans want to use first names as quickly as possible after meeting businesspeople from other cultures. There are no special rules about giving and receiving business cards. Many Americans fold or write on a card, but this does not mean they do not respect you.
Now determine if the following statements are True or False. Correct the false statements:
1. Americans are indirect in their communication with others.
2. They like to be very close to the other person they are speaking to.
3. It is very important to arrive on time when going to a meeting with American people.
Q5: Write a paragraph (not more than 80 words) about one of the following topics:
Extra notes: Practicing the English language is part of every class. That means the practical part of this module is not separated from the lecturing but involved and carried out through conversation, group discussion, and story narration.
External Evaluator This coursebook contains all the necessary components that can be used as a guide by the students
during the semester. The coursebook also includes important elements such as objectives and learning
outcome of the module. The lecturer has also included some samples of questionnaires that can benefit
and work as guide for students for their revisions period. The coursebook has also enshrined some
references that students can refer to if they are interested to explore the studies further. For the
reasons mentioned, I confirm that this coursebook satisfies the quality assurance requirements and I
recommend that students have a copy so that they refer to throughout the year.
