Owners and On-island representatives, please be sure to check with the AOAO prior to purchasing your
lanai furniture to ensure that the pieces you have chosen are in compliance with our current House Rules.
Please note that the color guidance applies to the frames, slings, cushions, slats, etc. The guidelines are
there to help us maintain a clean and uniform appearance of the buildings. Please feel free to contact the
AOAO if you need assistance.
Kudos and Congratulations go to the dedicated Board, Committee Chairs and members, as well as the Owners, partners, supporting staff, and the entire Whaler Ohana for successful Committee and Board Meetings. If we didn’t see you this time around, we’ll catch you in December.

As you enter Ka’anapali, road work begins along a 1/2 mile stretch, so be prepared for delays.
In sleepy little Paia Town, off Hana Hwy at the start of the “Road to Hana” journey, you can observe the sugar cane being harvested. It’s interesting to see all the different machinery, equipment, and labor involved in this ardu-ous process.
A brief history of HC&S: Well over a century old, HC&S has grown from a small Maui sugarcane plantation founded by two childhood friends into one of the world’s most advanced and productive sugar businesses.
Augmenting their original investment in 12 acres below Makawao, Maui, with the acquisition of an additional 559 acres, Sam-uel Thomas Alexander and Henry Perrine Baldwin planted their first sugarcane crop in 1870 on their newly established Alex-ander and Baldwin plantation. Over the next three decades, they acquired a number of neighboring plantations that, together with their original plantation, formed Maui Agricultural Company.
In 1948, Maui Agricultural Company and HC&S merged, keeping the HC&S name and becoming the largest sugar producer in the United States. In 1962, HC&S merged with, and became a division of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc.
Over time, generation after generation of Maui residents have brought their skills, ingenuity, commitment and community-mindedness to HC&S, and in turn, HC&S became an integral part, if not a driving force, of the social and economic fabric of Maui Nui.

The Whaler…
I’m guessing our Whaler Guests will find something to occupy their time in paradise until things get back to “normal”.
... and we hope you do too! Have a wonderful weekend with your Ohana!
Ps. The answer for the “Guess Who” challenge from last week is Shawn Racoma. Congratulations, Joanie Ochsner, for guess-ing right and guessing first. We owe her a hat and a BIG hug… 10 days and counting... (see you soon Joanie!)
Pps. For those who are interested, I put together a slideshow of the Relay For Life- American Cancer Society Event from this summer. We captured great good footage of the free hula show from Old Lahaina Luau who participate every year to provide free entertainment for the community at this event. Thanks to all the volunteers and donors.
