    BREAKING NEWS

    (A Media Event)

    Time : 4 hours 30 minutes

    Time for Shooting : 2 hours, commencing at 10:00 a.m.

    Time for Processing : 2 hours 30 minutes commencing at 1:00 p.m.

    Breaking news, unlike conventional reportage is very brief and to the point.

    The presenter needs to be focussed and should possess the quality to

    determine how much prominence a news story is given by media and the

    attention given by the audience or viewers.

    The main aim of the event is to familiarize the participants with the idea of

    newsworthiness,

    ethics in news broadcasting, growth of interactive media and aspects of citizen

    journalism.

    General Rules:

    1. Each team shall be represented by THREE participants.

    2. Each team shall bring its own hardware related to the event viz. Handy

    cam/ professional camera / DSLR or digital point and shoot camera with

    recording facility, memory cards/memory stick (no external hard disk or

    internal camera memory to be used), memory card reader, chargers, power

    cords, power banks, battery, additional battery, tripods, stand, lenses, filters

    etc. (the list is illustrative).

    3. The storage media should not contain any pre-recorded item except for

    the items mentioned below in point number 8.

    4. A code number shall be issued to each team to ensure transparency.

    5. The movie clip must be submitted in any of the following formats- .mov,

    .mpeg, .mp4, .wmv (for media conversion, use of offline media convertor is

    permitted).

    6. The length of the movie clip should not exceed 3 minutes, including title

    and credits.

    7. For processing of the movie presentation Picasa or Windows Movie

    Maker are to be used, use of any other package is forbidden. The

    processing of the movies should be done on the computers provided by the

    organisers only.

    BREAKING NEWS

    (A Media Event)

    8. All the presentations shall be thoroughly scrutinised for plagiarism and

    background music . It should not bear any copyright issues. Use of opening

    and closing animated video clips is however permitted.

    9. No internet connectivity shall be provided. The participants are therefore

    advised to be cautious while using multimedia.

    10. All the presentations shall be assessed strictly on the guidelines as in

    Code of Ethics and Broadcasting Standard of NBA, India (see

    www.nbanewdelhi/code of-ethics-broadcasting-standards.asp). The

    presentation should clearly reflect the news item & the satire, if any, is to

    be avoided.

    11. The decision of the judges shall be final and abiding.

    12.La Martiniere College, Lucknow takes no responsibility for safety of

    equipment brought by the participants.

    13.The results shall be announced during the closing ceremony in Spence

    Hall. The winning entries shall be screened before the audience.

    14.The winning entries shall be uploaded to the official YouTube channel of

    La Martiniere College, Lucknow.

    Venue:

    After registration the participants shall be guided to The Mews I.C. by the

    student escorts of the event. They shall be briefed about the event. Scanning

    of the storage media shall be done at that time.

    The final production and processing shall be completed in the Mews I.C.

    where multimedia systems shall be provided.The final presentation shall be

    submitted at the same laboratory. Evaluation shall take place there.

    The final result shall be announced in Spence Hall. The winning entry shall be

    screened before the audience and later uploaded to the official YouTube

    Channel of La Martiniere College, Lucknow.

    (A Cookery Competition)

    Time : 2 hours 30 minutes, commencing at 10:00 a.m.

    Venue : College Kitchens

    Rules:1. Each team shall consist of TWO participants who may be from Class 11 or 12.

    2. All participants are required to bring their own ingredients and utensils including the

    ones used for the plating of their dishes.

    Round 1: Salad Decoration1. Time allotted : 1 hour

    2. Topic : ‘Soup for four’

    3. This shall be an elimination round.

    4. Participants shall have to prepare a soup using fresh herbs(dried herbs may also be

    used) and vegetables of their choice. This is to be made on the spot.

    5. The use of precooked materials shall not be permitted, like readymade soup powders

    or soup cubes.

    Round 2: Lunch Preparation1. Time allotted for preparation: 1 hour 30 minutes

    2. Topic : Luncheon Delight!

    3. A Chicken dish suitable for lunch for four persons is to be prepared.

    4. Each participant is required to bring a kg. of Chicken along with the other ingredients as

    per their requirement.

    5. The use of readymade ingredients shall lead to disqualification.

    6. Access to gas burners will be provided.

    7. Judges may question the participants on the cooking procedure that they are using.

    8. Two previously undisclosed ingredients shall be provided, which participants shall have

    to incorporate into their dish.

    CORPORATE SIMULATION

    Time : Commencing at 10:00 a.m.

    Venue : Mathematics Lecture Room

    Rules:

    • Each team shall be represented by TWO participants.

    • The event shall consist of 5 rounds.

    Stock Simulation Round

    • All participants shall be provided a virtual startup capital.

    • Rumors regarding different companies shall be floated at the beginning of the 5

    rounds based on which the participants will have to buy or sell stocks within their

    means.

    • Participants must bring calculators for this round.

    • No short-selling shall be permitted.

    • At the end of Round 5, all stocks shall be liquidated.

    • The top 8 teams with the highest profit margin, with respect to their initial virtual capital,

    shall qualify for the next round.

    Verbal Presentation• The top eight teams from the Stock Simulation round shall participate in this round.

    • The teams shall be divided into two pools of four teams each. This shall be decided by

    a draw of lots. Teams shall be allotted a particular sector.

    • Each team shall be given a USP that they must integrate into their plan while preparing

    their Business Model.

    • Participating team shall be permitted 30 minutes to prepare their Business Model . The

    use of the Internet is not permitted in this round.

    • A Verbal Presentation shall be presented by the teams for 3 minutes. Teams exceeding

    the time limit shall be penalized.

    • Team shall be judged on innovation, feasibility and the USP of their Business Model .

    Speaking skills shall also be considered.

    • The top 2 teams from each pool shall qualify for the final round.

    CSR Policy Formulation Round• The top 2 teams from each sector shall participate in this Round.

    • Teams shall be allotted a Public Company.

    • Participants shall get 2 hours to prepare a 5 slide PowerPoint presentation on the

    allotted company's CSR policies.

    • Each team shall be allotted 10 minutes for their presentation.

    • Participants are required to bring their laptop and Internet devices for this event.

    • Teams shall be judged on the feasibility, innovation and social utility of their policies.

    TOKEN SCRIPT

    Time : 2 hours, Commencing at 10:00 am

    Segment (I) : 30 minutes

    Segment (II): 90 minutes

    Venue : Middle School Library

    This event, in two segments, shall test both the brevity and the eloquence of

    the participants. It shall be a unique and enriching experience for young

    writers and poets.

    Rules:1. Each team shall be represented by TWO participants (from Classes 9 -

    12).

    2. In the first segment, one participant from each team shall be expected to

    compose a minimalistic tale of not more than 250 characters (not including

    spaces), from the word-stimulation provided. This word-stimulation shall

    be by a draw of lots.

    3. In the second segment, the other participant from each team shall

    compose a ballad (with a minimum of 6 and maximum of 12 quatrains),

    drawing from the teammate’s mini-tale.

    4. Only the use of the Oxford Pocket Dictionary shall be permitted.

    This may be brought to the venue by the team.

    Programming Languages : C++/JAVA

    Rules:

    1. Each team shall be represented by TWO participants.

    2. Three tasks shall be set, of which the participants shall be required to

    attempt any TWO. All the problems shall be designed to test the problem

    solving ability of the participants. The programming languages shall be

    C++ /Java.

    3. Each team shall be provided an IBM compatible Pentium computer,

    running Microsoft Windows. Compilers shall include associated

    development environments.

    4. The software provided shall be: Turbo C++ / Blue J.

    5. Participants shall not be permitted to bring or refer to any printed

    reference material, including software listings.

    6. The input and output operations shall be kept simple, allowing

    participants to concentrate on the problem solving aspects. Input shall be

    character-based from standard input files. Output shall be to the screen,

    using standard characters.

    7. All correct solutions shall be expected to handle test data correctly.

    8. Judging shall be from the command line and not from any integrated

    program environment.

    9. Judges may conduct a viva-voce on the task performed.

    UNUM THEATRUM

    (Mono Acting)

    Time: 1 hour 30 minutes, commencing at 09:30 a.m.

    Venue: Spence Hall

    Rules:

    1. Each team shall be represented by ONE participant (from class 9 – 12)

    2. The participant shall perform a mono-act highlighting a social issue.

    3. A maximum of 4 minutes shall be given to each participant to perform.

    4. Language/statements unsuitable for a general audience shall not be

    permitted. If the judges conclude that the performance violated this

    guideline, the participant will be disqualified.

    5. The participant must have suitable costume and make-up for the act.

    6. The participant shall not be allowed to use sound or light effects for

    his/her act.

    The sequence of appearance on stage shall be decided by drawing lots.

    Rules and Requirements

    1. Each team shall be represented by a maximum of FIVE participants

    (inclusive of vocalists and accompanists)

    2. The participants shall perform songs ONLY in English.

    3. The use of auto rhythm and pre-recorded music shall not be permitted.

    4. Each team shall be permitted a slot of 7 minutes on stage.

    This shall include: Stage setup, Sound check and Performance.

    5. A drum kit shall be provided by the host school

    6. Non-adherence to the time limit shall be penalized.

    7. Metal /heavy metal music shall not be permitted, even during sound

    check.

    The sequence of appearance on stage shall be decided by drawing

    lots.

    Theme: Global Dance-Off.

    Rules:

    1. Each team shall be represented by a maximum of SIX participants.

    2. Each performance shall be for a maximum of 10 minutes.

    3. (This is to be recorded from empty stage to empty stage)

    4. The sound system available in the Spence Hall shall be used.

    5. Arrangement of properties and backdrop, if any, is to be done by the team.

    6. The composition should consist of a minimum of ‘THREE’ songs and

    a maximum of ‘SIX’ songs, keeping in mind that each piece is of a

    different language/dialect.

    7. Marks shall be deducted if the teams are unable to stick to the specified

    time limit and theme.

    8. A compact disc (CD) or pen drive (PD) with selected music is to be

    submitted on 8 October, 2016 between 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm to the

    Staff Advisor in Spence Hall.

    9. Inappropriate attire, moves and/ or lyrics may lead to disqualification.

    3. Participants shall be expected to conceive a plot/story to be dramatized

    using this material. There shall be no restriction in the interpretation of a

    theme or the use of the properties.

    4. The participants must only use the properties provided in the box.

    5. The teams shall be allotted different areas in the College premises to

    prepare their act.

    5. The teams are to perform in their respective school uniform.

    6. The total time given to the participants shall be FIVE minutes (from empty

    stage to empty stage).

    La Martiniere College Extra-curricular Organization (LEO) is an umbrella group made up of

    representatives of the different co-curricular activity clubs that function in the College. The

    members of LEO see themselves in the role of leadership as lions. They have chosen for their

    inspiration the ubiquitous lion emblem that surrounds the monument Constantia, which is also

    the name of this day-long event.

    The apex of Constantia, the monument, bears a unique crown, which contributes to the image of

    the crowned lion that is the mascot for Constantia – 2016
