January 12th, 2020 The Baptism of the Lord (feast)“This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” (Mt 3, 17)

In this reading the author tells us about a special servant of the Lord. He brings jus-tice to God’s people in ways that are peaceful and life-giving. He frees those who are imprisoned or wandering in the darkness. With a firm grasp, he takes God’s people by the hand and guides them in keeping their covenant with God. For Christians, this description of the servant of the Lord is an inspiring portrait of Jesus. He is the One who brings us peace, life, and freedom. / Isaiah 42:1-4, 6-7Because God is just, God does not play favorites. All persons and nations are acceptable to the Lord. As Peter shares this welcome news with the household of the Roman soldier Cornelius, he can hardly wait to tell the entire Jesus’ story. He stresses how the Holy Spirit anointed Jesus at his baptism. After that, Jesus went forth to fulfill his ministry as the servant of the Lord. / Acts 10:34-38Why did Jesus insist that John baptize him in the Jordan River? Jesus had no sin to be washed away, no need to repent. But Jesus had a great need to cooperate with God’s plan of salvation. And that plan required that he identify totally with the people he had come to save. / Matthew 3:13-17

“Este es mi Hijo muy amado en quien tengo mis complacencias” / Mt 3, 17En esta lectura el autor nos habla sobre un servidor de Dios. El traerá la justicia que dará vida y paz al pueblo de Dios. El liberará a los prisioneros y a lo que están en la oscuridad. Con firme brazo, él tomara al pueblo de Dios de la mano y lo guíara para mantener la alianza con Dios. Para los cristianos, la descripción del servidor del Señor es un retrato de Jesús. El es quien nos trae paz, vida y libertad. / Isaías 42:1-4, 6-7Porque Dios es justo no tiene favoritos. Todas las personas y naciones son iguales ante el Señor. Pedro comparte esta nueva en la casa del soldado romano Cornelio, y quiere contar toda la historia de Jesús. El pone énfasis en como el Espíritu Santo ungió a Jesús en el bautismo. Después de eso, Jesús fue a cumplir su ministerio como servidor del Señor. / Hechos de los Apóstoles 10:34-38

¿Por qué Jesús insistió en que Juan lo bautizara en el río Jordán? Jesús no tenía pecados que la perdonaran, no necesitaba arrepentirse. ONELIFE LA EVENT: will be celebrating their annual OneLife LA on Sat-urday, January 18, 2020 for the beauty and dignity of every human life from conception to natural death. ¿Qué es el Bautismo? En su diálogo con Nicodemo, Jesús enseñó que el bautismo era necesario para la salvación. “Nadie puede entrar en el reino de Dios si no nace del agua y del Espíri-tu “ (Juan 3:5). Después de su resurrección, Jesús se reunió con los once apóstoles y les dio la misión de predicar el Evangelio y bautizar, diciéndoles: “El que crea y sea bautizado, se salvará” (Marcos 16,16).La palabra bautismo es de origen griego y significa “ inmersión” y “baño”. La in-mersión en agua es un signo de la muerte y la emersión del agua significa vida nueva. Bañarse en el agua es también para someterse a la limpieza. San Pablo dice: “Sepultados con él en el bautismo, en el cual fueron también resucitados con él, mediante la fe en el poder de Dios..” (Col 2:12)El origen y el fundamento del bautismo cristiano es Jesús. Antes de comenzar su ministerio público, Jesús se sometió al bautismo dado por Juan el Bautista. Las aguas no le purificaron; el limpió las aguas. Con las instrucciones a sus discípulos de ir a bautizar a todas las naciones, estableció los medios por los cuales la gente muere al pecado - original y real - y comienza a vivir una nueva vida con Dios. What is Baptism? In his dialogue with Nicodemus, Jesus taught that Baptism was necessary for salvation. “No one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit” (Jn. 3:5). After his Resurrection, Jesus met with the eleven Apostles and gave them the mission to preach the Gospel and baptize, tell-ing them, “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved” (Mk 16:16). The word baptism in its origins is Greek and means “immersion” and “bath.” Immersion in water is a sign of death and emersion out of the water means new life. To bathe in water is also to undergo cleansing. Saint Paul says, “You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God…” (Col 2:12).The origin and foundation of Christian Baptism is Jesus. Before starting his public ministry, Jesus submitted himself to the baptism given by John the Baptist. The waters did not purify him; he cleansed the waters. By commanding his disciples to baptize all nations, he established the means by which people would die to sin—Original and actual—and begin to live a new life with God.
