Sharon Eshet created her Tel Aviv-based
firm, Sharon Eshet Design & Architecture,
after working and studying in New York,
then teaching in her native Israel at the
Shenkar School of design. Today, Eshet’s
international firm specializes in high-end
residential and hospitality projects.
When designing for the La Torretta Del
Lago resort near Houston, Texas, she was
drawn to the quick production time and
design flexibility of Milliken’s exclusive étage™
technology. As she says, “I was not confined
to a catalog, and I didn’t have to decide
on a limited palette of colors at a stage
when we barely knew what the finishes
of the hotel were going to be.”
Though working long distance, Eshet
maintained a lively dialog with Milliken’s
design team using Sametime® technology,
sharing a common computer screen to
ensure they were literally on
the same page. “The Milliken design team
was wonderful in taking my ideas and
wishes and turning them into a practical,
working carpet. The result surpassed
my expectations.”
“ The result surpassed my expectations: the installed carpet looks wonderful, we were able to achieve a unique look — usually the privilege of boutique hotels — at no additional cost to the client. So everyone is happy.”
From the start, Eshet visualized carpet as a key
feature of her design for the guest room living area,
as shown here (and below) in the designer’s initial
2-D concept.
Working with the Milliken team, Eshet’s design
evolved to evoke a sense of depth and incorporate
a sophisticated palette. Milliken’s étage™ technol-
ogy made it easy for her to add or remove design
layers, viewing the results instantly, until she
achieved the look she was after.
Of the results, owner Ronnie Benzur says, “We
believe the carpet in the room plays an important
role in guest satisfaction.”

The La Torretta Del Lago project demonstrates
how easily designers can take advantage of
exclusive Milliken Hospitality technology
to create custom carpet that works for them,
rather than the other way around.
As designer Sharon Eshet says, “I immediately
felt at ease with Milliken’s étage design
process as it was very similar to Photoshop®.
It allowed me to approach the carpet as a
blank canvas the size of a room, and have
fun by adding and removing layers.”
Guest room carpet can include as many as 12
colors, and Milliken’s exclusive Pure Color
System provides a science-based system
for allowing designers to
spec precisely the colors
they want—even if those
colors are not among
the 1,360 included in the
Pure Color sample box.
With these tools, what was
once a seemingly endless
process of trials and revisions becomes a
time- and cost-effective means of creating a
completely custom look.
Using Milliken’s unique étage design process,
designers can bring their vision to life even in
spaces usually compromised by production
or budget requirements, such as guest
rooms and corridors.
“Milliken made our concepts into sensible
repeats, made sure to consider soil and
staining concerns, and added styling
and sophistication needed to make the
translation form a 2-D paper sketch into
a carpet that has life, dimensionality and
texture,” explains designer Sharon Eshet.
“Milliken’s design team and CAD specialists
developed creative ways to eliminate waste.”
The entire library of Milliken étage design
motifs and layers are now part of an exclusive
online design tool. Designers can layer on
motifs and texture effects, play with color,
request strike-offs and even see a simulated
installation of their custom design. Go to
www.etage.milliken.com.
“In the corridor I wanted to create interest with a repeat that was not obvious but fun.”
