2 LAA NEWSLETTER

cLAA Ambassador Meeting, October 2014: The LAA Ambassadors have long been front line volunteers and advocates for the Latino Alumni Association. Last year at their annual meeting, some of our LAA Ambassadors posed for a fun photo with members of Ballet Folklórico de LMU (two of which are LAA Scholars).

cLAA @ L.A. Galaxy Game, September 2014: LAA welcomed more than 65 alumni, family and friends to an L.A. Galaxy match at the StubHub Center. It was a fun evening out to celebrate the Galaxy’s Annual Hispanic Heritage Night, and making the night even more exciting, the L.A. Galaxy took the win!

cLAA Scholarship Awards Dinner, November 2014: The Latino Alumni Association celebrated its 33rd Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. The evening attracted more than 345 guests and generated more than $108K in scholarship support (sponsorships and direct scholarship commitments). Our accomplished scholarship recipients and the following esteemed honorees were recognized: L.A. Galaxy Foundation, Corporate Honoree for Service in the Latino Community; Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Community Service Honoree; Thomas Cervantez ’86, Role Model Honoree; Graciela Limón, Ph.D., Lifetime Achievement Honoree; and Alyssa Perez ’15, Theology and Political Science double major, was presented with the Donald P. Merrifield, S.J. Scholarship.

cAlumni BBQ, September 2014: Alumni and their families were invited back to campus for the 60th Annual LMU Alumni BBQ. In traditional fashion, LAA served ice cold margaritas at their booth, while alums and their families snapped pictures with Iggy the Lion nearby.

cPresident Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D. President Snyder’s tenure began June 2015. He comes to LMU with more than 20 years of experience as a professor and administrator and most recently served as vice president for academic affairs at Loyola Univer-sity Maryland. LAA Mixer, April 2015

“I always enjoy coming back to campus for this event. It gives me the chance to reconnect with old friends and meet some new folks. Especially at this point in my career, it is important to me that I stay connected with my LMU contacts. I still remember my time at LMU as a student and I remember how much I wanted to network with professionals and alumni. This is another reason why I make it a point to participate as a LAA Ambassador and attend the events I can.” – Sebastian Blanco ’09

LAA Mixer, April 2015

“It’s hard to believe that this year I attended the LAA Mixer for the last time as a student. I’m grateful to all the alumni who gave me advice and shared their stories. I only hope I can offer that same guidance to future Lions. I’m so excited to say that I earned my degree in only three years and am now the first in my family to have a college degree. Thank you LAA for my scholarship, for being in my corner, and for giving me an extended family.” – Citlaly Orozco ’15
