Welcome to biology lab! I am very excited to have you in my class this semester and think that we will all have a wonderful experience! Grading System This class will be on a point grading system. Assignments will be given a maximum point value based upon assignment type and difficulty. Points will be awarded based on conditions described in class when the assignment is given. Your grade will be determined by dividing the number of points you earned by the number of points you could have earned during the semester. Your final Exam will count as 25% of your final lab grade. The grading scale will remain unchanged. 90-100% = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C 60-69% = D 0-59% = F Attendance: Attendance to lab is mandatory. You will gain the most from this course if you are present for each class. There will be a weekly lab quiz, which will help you assess your knowledge and will act as your attendance grade. If you are late to class and miss the quiz you will not be allowed to make it up. Make every effort to attend each lab. However, I do recognize that life happens – so: If you must miss lab, I must be notified within 24 hours after lab. You may complete a make-up assignment that can be found on the lab web-site. I will accept only one make-up assignment per semester. If you fail to attend more than 1 lab (consecutively) you will be marked as “Stopped Attending” for your attendance. If there is a pattern of absenteeism you may be marked as “stopped attending”. If you miss the midterm there will be NO make-up assignment given. If you are unable to attend the midterm exam, if it you responsibility to notify me within 24 hours of missing the exam. Please do NOT attend class if you have had a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea in the past 24 hours.

Assignments All assignments given in class are due at the end of class, unless you are told otherwise. Assignments may be turned in the following week at the beginning of class with out a penalty. Assignments not turned in the first lab period after they are assigned will be considered late and you will lose 5 points for every week they are late. Make-up assignments are due the first lab you return to class. After the first lab, points will be deducted from make-up assignments in the same way they are deducted from regular assignments. It is YOUR responsibility to complete all work. I will NOT email work to you, if you do not have an assignment for any reason you are required to download it from the course website. ****Note: Cheating on any assignment will NOT be tolerated and will result in an immediate 0 (zero) for the assignment. If you are unsure what constitutes cheating please ask me for guidance. One final note: Please, do not ever hesitate to come to me with any concerns you may have.
