Structure and Scope
Facing increasingly demanding consumers, it became essential to maintain a laboratorynetwork with skilled manpower, adequate infrastructure, advanced technological equipment and the adoption of internationally recognized methodologies. The laboratory network of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA) counts on it’s own laboratories - the Lanagros - plus accreditated labs. This set of laboratories - managed by the General Coordination Laboratory Support - CGAL - develops actions related to agricultural and livestock health as well as the safety of food arriving on the tables of millions of consumers in Brazil and worldwide.

Locations
The Lanagros are strategically located in the states of Goiás, Pará, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo. The six Lanagros boast 65,000 m² of constructed areas on 92.7 hectares belonging to Mapa - Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply - allowing eventual expansion of facilities. Besides these areas, Lanagro / RS counts on the Sarandi Farm (180 hectares) where tests are conducted on animals for official control of vaccines against foot-and-mouth disease.
