39.  Very rare edging of Frisado from Valladolid,   a polychrome needle  lace  in silk and metallic gold and silver thread, Spain, 

late 16th cent beginning of the 17th cent, sewn on a burgundy colored silk.  Dim : 3,35m x 12cm (good condition) 

This lace was made in the convents of Castile in the north of Spain, in the 16th cent and throughout the 17thcent; it was mostly for religious use. The use of silk and metallic thread made this lace fragile. It disappeared almost entirely in the early nineteenth century during the Spanish Napoleonic War.  There are very few examples left except in the Spanish religious institutions. The ‘’Museo del Encaje de Tordesillas’’ in Spain owns a fragmant of the same lace ; it is illustrated in the book of the museum, p. 17 1 500 / 2 000 €

52.  Alb of a very rare Point de Sedan needle lace, formaly in the collection of Mr Alfred Lescure, about 1690‐1710 

Beautiful design in the Berainesque style, with rich ornements such as vases supporting plentiful of vegetation, flowers and leaves, pineapple leaves, cornucopias, fans, shells, ect….. This needle lace is very finely worked with various needlepoints, and a few embroidery embellisment in overthicknessess  including small patterns festooning the border. The net is the Point de France, with picoté brides. Very fine linen thread. (good condition, some fines old repairs, a very few little spots) Dim : 2,90m x 59cm  (114’’ x 23.2’’) This flounce was formaly in the collection of Mr Alfred Lescure.  In : LES ARTS (Extrait) LA COLLECTION DE M. ALFRED LESCURE, N°35. A similar flounce, but a shorter lenght belongs to the Textilmuseum at St Gall, in. N°700. 15 000 / 20 000 €

117.  A very rare deep flounce of Valenciennes de Gand bobbin lace, about 1850‐70. 

Beautiful design of roses, small daisies, little bells, and fine garlands.  From the quality of the design and the hight quality of the  workmanship we can attributed this flounce to the Visitation convent of Ghent.  Entirely bobbin‐made, the motifs are made separately, worked in a dense cloth stich, and assembled together with the ground worked round it; diamand mesh ground of plaited threads; very fine linen thread (good condition, a few delicate repairs to the net)  Dim: 2,45m x 29cm (96,5” x 11,4”) A similar flounce of Valenciennes de Gand belongs to the Musées Royaux d’Art et d’Histoire in Brussels. It was initialy given by the city of Ghent in 1853 to the Duchess Marie‐Antoinette for her wedding dress. The princess Victor Napoleon donated this lace to the museum. In:  «L’Europe de la Dentelle» Mrs Martine Bruggeman, p.99, Inv. D 3284   In : «Trois siècles de dentelles» Mrs Risselin‐Steenebrugen ‐ Musées Royaux d’Art et d’Histoire de Bruxelles, p.533, pl.378.   1 800 / 2 200 €

125.  Rare Cie des  Indes box with  two matching  flounces of a  fine Chantilly bobbin  lace of Bayeux,   wax seals  'Cie des  Indes'  

about 1870‐1880. 

This Chantilly bobbinlace is made of a very fine silk thread with a nice design of flowers and bows, the bows are worked in point 

ground,  cloth  stich  and honeycomb  following  each other  in order  to  give  the  shining  effect of  a  silk  ribbon ;  this  is  a  great 

technical difficulty for a lace maker. 

Each flounce is marked with the wax seal of the Cie des Indes ; into a creamy colored box with the gold stamp of the « Cie des 

Indes » and monogram MB printed on the outer cover.  The inner cover has the label 'Cie des Indes ".

 A long and large skirt entirely worked in Brussels Duchess, beautiful design worked from a central axis of typical motifs from this period such as flowers, leaves, scolls. Motifs are  worked in cloth stich and half stich; the front and the back are decorated with two large insertions of Rose Point de Gaze needle lace, beautiful motifs of roses with three‐ dimensional petals, some smaller insertions of Point de Gaze with medaillons and fancy fillings.  The bodice is worked the same way with a slightly different Rose Point de Gaze motif. There is a large Point de Gaze needle lace insertion at the back, two insertions at the front and two insertions on each of the large sleeves.  (very good condition, a very few light stains, a darker braunish spot at the front of the bodice) Dimensions : Skirt: width at the front : 109 cm (43’’) Width at the back from the waist until the bottom: 150cm (41.5’’)  Bottom circumference: 3,50m (138’’)   Bodice: width at the front: 47cm (18.5’’)   width at the back:  36cm (14’’) 3 500 / 4 500 €

189.  “Mariage Princier’’  Auguste Lefébure, needle lace, late XIXe – beginning of the XXe siècle. 

A very rare needle lace created by Lefébure, with an excellent quality of design and workmanship. 

The design is inspired by the medieval  period, a knight walking in front of his horse goes to meet his bride ; following the bride, 

her bridesmaid, some minstrel, singer, archer ; all together there is twelve characters in the whole lace. 

Some birds are fluttering in between flowers, branches and leaves.
