The LAC+USC Medical Education Fellowship is a two-year program designed to prepare emergency

medicine (EM) residency-trained graduates for careers as superb clinical educators, scholars, and

leaders in EM-focused medical education

Professional Development

• Enrollment in the Master of Academic Medicine degree or certificate program through the Keck School of Medicine of USC

• Opportunity to participate in faculty development courses such as the CORD Medical Education Research Certificate (MERC) Program, depending on individual interests

• Funded travel and registration fees for the CORD Academic Assembly and the annual USC Innovations in Medical Education (IME) conference

• Dedicated mentorship from senior faculty members with a diverse array of educational interests and academic appointments

• Involvement in the monthly intra-departmental Education Community of Practice, which explores career development, learning theory and teaching methods, and education research methods with opportunities for collaboration and feedback on individual education research projects

“What are the advantages

of a two-year medical education fellowship?”

The two most valuable commodities in fellowship are protected time and mentorship. The additional protected time through a second year of fellowship allows you to further advance your professional development through the completion of a degree or certificate program, while also giving you the time necessary to develop a successful scholarly niche through the extended mentorship of dedicated faculty members in a variety of educational domains. You will grow as a junior clinician, educator, scholar, and leader, while simultaneously increasing your competitiveness in the eyes of future employers.
