Welcome Back!!
Welcome back everyone!! We have almost
worked through one complete cycle of our 6-day
schedule and already things seem to have settled into a
nice routine. Summer for us was a little busier than we
would have liked with more work on our “long term”
project at the lake. We did manage to spend lots of time
with family though, especially our new little addition to
the family, our granddaughter!! I hope all of you had an
enjoyable summer and that it will be a nice long fall!
We were very happy to welcome some new
students again this year. Welcome to our 6 new
Kindergarten students; Olivia Dubitz, Jordyn Prytula,
Peter Richard, James Silzer, Anabel Weseen and
Maddox Yeager!! We also welcomed students new to
our community and school; Mathias Morin-Simaganis
(Gr 3), Gabrielle Hiebert-Simaganis (Gr 4), Lexi Morin
(Gr 4), Nancy Morin (Gr 7), and Delaney Morin (Gr 8);
along with Morgan Stevens (Gr 6) and Brayden Stevens
(Gr 7)!! That brings our total enrollment to 84
students!!
Welcome back to all of our staff members. We
have had some slight changes to our staffing for this
year. We are very fortunate to have Mrs. Schreiner with
us now full time rather than half time!! And returning
this fall to fill in for the remainder of Mrs. Hogemann’s
maternity leave is Miss Erin Batty. Welcome back Erin!!
Also, Mrs. Carla Jule returns to our school this year as
our student counsellor after a short hiatus, welcome
back Carla!!
Once again many thanks to our caretaking and
maintenance crew! Colleen and Allan Hartl did a great
job over the summer getting our school in ship-shape!
Our grounds looking good too, thanks to Rochelle Voz!!
All of our extra-curricular activities are already
up and running. Once again we have a full slate of
junior/ senior soccer & cross country, many thanks to
our staff members for taking on these (and many other)
extra-curr activities. Many thanks to our community
and student coaches as well. Best of luck to all our
teams – work hard, play hard.
Yearbook and SRC committees will be meeting
soon and planning their year’s activities. Mrs. Gerwing
returns as our Yearbook advisor, and Mrs. Hauser as our
SRC advisor.
With school start up there have been a few
additional changes. Most notably is the change to our
school day. Throughout the spring we discussed the
elimination of our common DEAR ( Drop Everything and
Read ) time that we have been doing for quite some
time. While this has been a valuable time for students
for some uninterrupted reading time, we felt it was
important to put that 15 min per day back into the
capable hands of our Ela teachers. All Ela teachers will
continue to have DEAR in their classrooms but will now
have flexibility in choosing the time and duration that
this happens for their students. Also, this time will also
give our Ela teachers some valuable literacy time to
spend working one on one or in small groups with their
students. This change required us to rearrange our
school day somewhat – most notably beginning our day
5 minutes earlier with a “Reminder Bell” at 8:45 am, a
shortened noon period, and ending our day slightly
earlier at 3:15 pm. Town students should now arrive no
earlier than 8:35 am. A full bell schedule will be
available in our updated handbook and will be sent
home with your child as soon as possible. As with any
change there are bound to be a few glitches along the
way, if you have any concerns or questions please don’t
hesitate to call.
Another major change this summer was the
installation of security cameras and doors on all Horizon
School Division schools. Over the past few years, we
have asked all visitors to enter through the main high
school entrance and report to the office during the
school day. This will continue of course but with the
added of measure of “buzzing in” with the intercom
system in the vestibule of the main high school
entrance.
Another reminder in regards to student
absences is to please remember to confirm your son or
daughter absence with a signed note, phone call or
email to the school office. It is vital ( and legally
required ) that we maintain accurate attendance
records. Again, your co-operation here is appreciated!
Our SCC meets once a month, and we are happy
to have Dalton Kiedrowski return as one of our student
reps. Also, Jace Collins has volunteered to be our
newest student rep. Welcome aboard Jace!! Our first
meeting of the year is on Tuesday, Sept 10th, there are
always quite a few topics to discuss at our meetings,
one of them being the assessment of school fees. The
school fees form will be sent home as soon as our SCC
has had a chance to review them.
Once again, welcome back everyone. Have a
safe and bountiful harvest! Remember to check out our
school’s website at http://lakelenoreschool.hzsd.ca for
information on all our upcoming events.

Grade 1/2
Welcome back to everyone! I hope everyone enjoyed their summer vacation and is ready for the new school year. This year the Grade 1 and 2 classes will be sharing a classroom. I will be teaching Language Arts, Math and Social Studies in the mornings. In the afternoons they will have Mrs. Hauser for Health and Computer Literacy, Mrs. Kolbeck for Science and Mr. Strueby for Physical Education. They will join Mrs. Gerwing and the Kindergarten class for Fine Arts. We will continue to use the daily planners as I find it works well for communication purposes. I check the planners first thing each morning so please feel free to write any messages. I ask that parents also check their child’s planner daily and initial the planner to let me know that they have received the school information and homework assignments. Thanks. Have a great month and a safe harvest. Val Bauml

Grade 3/4/5 News
Welcome back! We began the new school year with smiles, laughter and a whole lot of enthusiasm! It is very evident that both students and staff are excited to be back. We are very pleased to welcome three new
students to our classroom – welcome to Mathias in Grade 3 and Lexi and Gabby in Grade 4! The students are off to a great start. In Ela., our first lessons were on how to pick a “good fit” book and building stamina when reading to self. After two short sessions, the students progressed from 11 mins 11 secs of sustained reading to 20 mins 30 secs. Very impressive work Grade 3/4/5! Keep it up! Homework is quite minimal in Grade 3/4/5 but students are expected to read each night for at least 15 minutes. Daily practice improves fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and the LOVE for LITERACY! Once again, we will be using planners as a communication tool between school and home. Please check your child’s planner daily for notes and reminders. Each morning we break for a quick snack before recess. Please be sure that you sent a healthy treat in your child’s lunch for morning snack. Breakfast for Learning will resume after harvest. I look forward to a great year with your child/ren. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Have a fabulous month and a safe harvest.

PICTURE DAY
Lancer Athletics Hello Everybody,
Well here we are once again. I hope you all had
a wonderful summer! It’s time to get back to work and
the students of Lake Lenore School have certainly hit the
ground running!
Our cross country team has started practicing
and the participation rate is as good as ever. We have a
total of twenty three student-athletes who have signed up
this year! The team has been working hard already and
are excited for a new season!! Once again, I will be
helping Mrs. Prodahl coach the team. Pre-districts and
districts will be held in Watson and provincials are in
Prince Albert this year!
Our junior soccer teams are ready to go as well.
Horizon league play will begin this week! Thank you to
Mrs. Korte for coaching the boys and to Mrs. Kolbeck
for coaching the girls once again!!
Our senior soccer teams are busy preparing
already for the upcoming season as Horizon league play
begins next week as well. The boys have been running at
cross country practice and the girls have been out
practicing as well! Miss Batty is coaching the girls this
season and I will once again be coaching the boys!
As most of you know we are making some
changes in regards to our athletic programs this year. In
order for our teams to survive we have started to explore
the ideas of joint sponsorships with other schools – more
commonly known as ‘co-oping.’ Our senior boys
basketball team has joined with Annaheim for the
upcoming year. We also have some boys going to
Annaheim this fall to play volleyball. Our senior girls
basketball team has entered into a co-op with Middle
Lake. We feel that this is necessary to keep our teams
going here in Lake Lenore. We may have to explore
doing this for our soccer teams in the future as well. It
simply is what needs to be done to ensure our students a
chance to take part in high school sport!
In conclusion, I am looking forward to working
with the students, staff, parents, and community
members once again this year! It takes an incredible
amount of hard work to have a successful high school
athletic program and I know I am excited to put in the
work necessary to try to provide a positive high school
sporting experience for the students of Lake Lenore
School!!
Until next time….GO LANCERS!!!

LIBRARY NEWS As always, it is nice to get back to school
and a regular routine. The first week in the library was a busy one with the entire student body visiting the library trying to find that perfect book to read. Finding a book that “grabs you” isn’t always easy, so I want to remind students that I am here to help you find the book that is the right fit for you. There is nothing worse than trying to struggle through a book that is either too difficult or not interesting. Many people think they don’t like reading, but the real issue is that they just simply haven’t connected with what it is they like to read about. I can’t stress the importance of finding the right book. So, again, if you are having difficulty finding a good book please come to me for assistance.
Once again, I plan to have the Willow Award books on display. I encourage all students to have a look at these nominees and try to read as many of them as possible. It looks like there is something in the selection for everyone. As in past years, I will try to read a few of them orally with each grade during library periods.
A little off the library topic, I want to remind everyone that the annual Terry Fox Walk in the school will be on Wednesday, September 25th, so please be watching for pledge forms to come home. Also, remember that family and friends are welcome to join us on this walk around town. More detailed information about this day will come home in the near future.
As always, I look forward to your visits. Until then . . . Happy reading,
Mrs. Brinkman
