LAKEWOOD PARK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH NOVEMBER, 2018 NEWSLETTER Thanksgiving Revelation 7:12 ( NLT ) They said, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and forever. Amen!” First of all, I want to say Happy Thanksgiving. The Scripture verse above says that thanksgiving belongs to God. I don’t think the verse is talking about the holiday. Rather, I believe it is talking about the act of giving thanks to God. Our Thanksgiving is something that He deserves. Maybe a way to say it is “we could never thank God enough.” We have a built-in time in the USA to help us remember to be thankful each November. What is not quite as built in to our holiday of Thanksgiving is the part about God. Thanksgiving the holiday can easily become for us simply a day to give thanks to/for neighbors, friends and family while leaving God out of it. I hope you will take some time this Thanksgiving to keep God as the focus. You can still enjoy the other aspects of our American holiday while you keep God in the center of it. Pray for me that I will do so too. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Love in Chris, Pastor Kirk

Thanksgiving

Revelation 7:12 ( NLT ) They said, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and forever. Amen!”

First of all, I want to say Happy Thanksgiving. The Scripture verse above says that thanksgiving belongs to God. I don’t think the verse is

talking about the holiday. Rather, I believe it is talking about the act of giving thanks to God. Our Thanksgiving is something that He deserves. Maybe a way to say it is “we could never thank God enough.”

We have a built-in time in the USA to help us remember to be thankful each November. What is

not quite as built in to our holiday of Thanksgiving is the part about God. Thanksgiving the holiday can easily become for us simply a day to give thanks to/for neighbors, friends and family while leaving God out of it.

I hope you will take some time this Thanksgiving to keep God as the focus. You can still enjoy the

other aspects of our American holiday while you keep God in the center of it. Pray for me that I will do so too.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Love in Chris, Pastor Kirk

TERRIFIC TUESDAY TIME!

Terrific Tuesday has had a strong start this fall with about 100 each week. Volunteers came in a week early to clean the kitchen thoroughly, shelves, refrigerators, stoves and ovens. We have had to raise our ticket price to $7 starting in October due to rising prices of groceries. We enjoy welcoming friends each week and sharing a meal. Our volunteers are efficient and effective, but we can always use extra help. ~ Kathy Isaacson Nov 6 Roast Pork Dinner Nov 13 Pizza Lover’s Casserole Nov 20 Turkey Dinner Nov 27 Beef Stroganoff Dec 4 Flounder Dinner Dec 11 Chicken Noodle Casserole

The needs of our community and church family continue, as do our need for your assistance with our Food Pantry Ministry: Boxed cereals, cans of soup, canned vegetables, boxed shelf- stable milk, canned beans, peanut butter, jelly, mac and cheese, tuna, canned chicken, spam, and rice. Food donations have been great lately-thank you so much. If you take food out of your cupboard, please check the expiration date. We do not give out expired cans or boxes of food. Our Food Pantry is always grateful for donations you wish to make. Total Food Bank boxes given out in October was 24.

Home Schooling Network “Classical Conversations”

8:00am-4:00pm “Classical Conversations” This is our LWPUMC Mission Home Schooling Network. This program for 2018-2019, will be ongoing until the middle of May of 2019 on our church campus.

~In Gratitude, Nicole Mules Director of Classical Conversations of Fort Pierce

Thank you, Classical Conversations…

What a joy it is to see the homeschoolers using the Family Life Center every Wednesday. To see learning going on in every single classroom and many ball games being played in the commons is exactly what was envisioned for the building 15 years ago. Mothers and fathers are supervising students who are very helpful and polite.

Praise the Lord! Kay Olson

time. They also folded boxes for the Operation Christmas

Child donations. The Youth group also sponsored two of the

WARNING: Exposure to the Son may prevent burning Author unknown

Many folks want to serve Jesus – but only in an advisory capacity Nothing ruins the truth like stretching it Kindness is difficult to give away because it keeps coming back The greatest message ever heard came from an empty tomb The most powerful position on Earth is kneeling before the Lord of the universe Don’t say ‘Our Father’ on Sundays and spend the rest of the week acting like an orphan Jesus paid a debt He didn’t owe because we owed a debt we couldn’t pay.
