General construction :-* Conductors:
The Conductor for power Cables are made from High Conductivity E.C. GradeAluminium and are manufactured according to IS: 8130/1984. The Copper used isannealed and of ~-IighConductivity.
* Insulation :The conductors are insulated with suitably compounded PVCwhich is applied to
the conductor by extrusion process.

* Inner sheath: . ,.For all Cables having two or more core, a common covering (Inner; sheath) is
provided over the laid up cores either by extrusion or by wrapping of plastic orproofed tapes. Single core Cables do not required Inner sheath.
Armouring : ,; ).;;,Depending upon the application, the cables can be armoured. The armouring
can be-of round steel wire' or steel strlps[)I'h ease of cables where diameter over theInner sheath does not exceed 13mni,; the'armouri-eonsist of galvanised round steelwires: above" this size. the armour can .be galvanised flat steel strips orgalvanisedround steel wires as per customers requirement.
Outer Sheath : .. "Overthe armourtng.Ior incase of unarmoured cables, over the innersheath '(for
single core, Cables over the insulation), a outersheathof PVC is applied by extrusion:This is normaly black in' colour. The trade mark SABAR alorigwtth the code ofmanufacture are embossed on the outersheath.
Testiri'g of PVC Cables" :Testing is a vital part of cable manufactured and all raw materials and finished
cables are throughly tested to ensure quality control. 'SABAR' have well equippedtesting laboratory for carrying out Electrical, mechanical and chemical tests whichare required as per relevant spec-ification;-The various tests as provided in the IndianStandards are carrtcdouton SABAR,CMLES. These are classtfted in three differentgroups. (1)Routine Tests [ii] Type Tests (iii] Acceptance Tests.
(1) Routine Test::- ,! ,
The following Tests constitute routine tests which are carried out Of! each andevery length of cables before .itleaves the factory.
(a) Conductor resistance Test.(b) High Voltage Test.
(2) Type Test : ..These test are carried out on samples taken from each production lot. They are
carried:' out to prove conformity as regards the general quality and design to thespecification 'of particular types of cables .
.(3) Acceptance Test :
The customers can request the various Acceptance Test as, provided in therelevarit Indian Standards to be carried out before accepting the materials.
