Dear Parents,

What a week we have had! On Monday morning at 10.20am I received a phone call to let me know

that we were welcoming two compliance inspectors to our school for the rigours of a regulatory

compliance inspection. They arrived at 7.45am on Wednesday morning!

I had trained to be a compliance inspector the previous week but being on the other side of the table

was a very different experience. All went smoothly and we will be able to share the results with you

in six weeks’ time. A compliance inspection is rather like an MOT - it is a pass or fail moment and

not an opportunity for eloquent prose but I hope that when we receive the report there will be much

to celebrate!

Years 6, 7 and 8 were fortunate enough to visit the Brighton Centre on Wednesday afternoon for a

performance of the exceptional War Horse. Naturally they loved it as did the teachers who

accompanied them.

This afternoon, Year 6 welcomed local magistrates for our annual Magistrates in the Community

Workshop to start their preparations for the Young Magistrate of the Year competition later this

year.

Next week, on Tuesday we will welcome Vickie Bacon back to LPW for an IT workshop. She will be

creating comic books with Years 5, 6 and 7 during the day and running an after school green-

screening activity for those with a particular interest in IT.

On Wednesday, Jaws and Claws return to share their weird and wonderful creatures with our

youngest children in the EYFS and then on Friday morning we have our annual house pancake race

which involves every child in the school from 2 to 13 years! In the afternoon a group of our Year 6

writers will visit Brighton College for the Sussex Wordsmith Competition. I think they could do

rather well!

Have a very happy weekend.

Best wishes,

Calling Culture Club Consultants aged 4 + for ‘Noggin the Nog’

This week we have 4 tickets to give away to some of our younger students.

On Saturday 10th February at 11.30am, Viking storytellers will bring the wonderful tales of Noggin

to the stage in this new piece of theatre for children and their families. Accompanied by the brave

and mighty ThorNogson and the great green bird Graculus, we go North on a journey of adventure

& discovery to battle the fearsome ice dragon and the dastardly deeds of Noggin’s wicked uncle;

Nogbad the Bad! https://worthingtheatres.co.uk/noggin-the-nog/

If you are available on this date, and would like your child’s name put in the hat, please could you

send a short email to [email protected]. Mrs Beeby will pull name from the hat on Monday and

I will give the winning child their tickets to take home in their school bag. When emailing, please

do say if you would be prepared to accept 2 tickets (for one adult and one child) as this would ena-

ble two of our families to attend. However, if you are a family of 4, and would like all the tickets,

that is also fine. As long as your name is pulled from the hat first…they will be yours.

U8 v Prebendal Lost

On Tuesday the U8s had their first game of the season. They tried extremely hard. However they

came up against a strong U9 Prebendal team. The girls worked hard to pass the ball accurately to

each other. Kaylee, Chloe and Purdey linked up well from the centre pass but we were unable to

get the ball into the circle as Prebendal defended well. Our defenders made some lovely

interceptions but just couldn’t make them count. A great learning experience for all the girls who

kept their heads up and continued to play well throughout the whole game. Thank you to the

parents who came to support us. Girl of the game: Chloe F

U10 Netball tournament – 2nd

LPW v North Lancing – Won 10-4

LPW v Durrington – Won 8-2

LPW v BHPS – Lost 18-2

On Wednesday we hosted a netball tournament here at LPW. The girls started well against North

Lancing with some super passing and finding space. Piper and Yasmin scored some amazing goals

from the edge of the D. We worked hard as a team to create space. Our next game against BHPS

was a tough one. We struggled to keep the ball so we were on the defence a lot. We made some

lovely interceptions but just couldn’t make them count. Our final game against Durrington we got

back into our stride. We defended well and create space down the court. Overall a great

performance by all the girls. Thank you to the parents who came to support.

U8 v Shoreham College Lost 2-15

This quickly became a difficult match for the girls who were up against a well-practised team who

have been playing netball for longer. Purdey scored a lovely goal but Shoreham quickly scored a

few. This was overall a tough game where our girls lacked confidence. However they continued to

work hard and held their heads high; this helped Purdey to score another goal in the second half.

This was a learning experience where the girls persevered. Girl of the game: Chloe F

U9 v Shoreham College Won 13-1

This was a fantastic game for the U9 girls. They put into practise lots that we have learnt in lessons.

They created good space and defended well. Grace made some cracking interceptions. Autumn and

Yasmin worked brilliantly in the D and shot some amazing goals. We worked as a team and had

some great accurate passing. Thank you to the parents who came to support us. Girl of the game:

Hockey Tournament at Brighton and Hove High School

Last Saturday, 3 pupils from LPW teamed up with 4 pupils from LPH, for the first time, to compete

in the Brighton and Hove High School U10s Hockey Tournament. After a shaky first game and a

encouragement talk the girls’ confidence grew. A team effort goal from Eliza and Lara in the second

game is what the girls needed to bring them closer together and stronger. Our goalkeeper Jasmine

from LPH was brilliant throughout, even diving to prevent the opposition from scoring! The girls

came 5th in the tournament. When two evenly matched games that were against Brighton Hockey

and Burgess Hill girls. Fantastic effort all round, especially as it was the first time they had ever

played together. Thank you to those parents who were able to come along and support the team.

Netball U9s vs Prebendal - Lost

A very fast paced game. Both teams quickly passed the ball up and down the court with all girls

moving into a space. Prebendal were just a little quicker on their reaction times. Amazing goals

from both teams especially those scored from the top of the D. Thank you to those parents who

were able to come along and support the team.

SPRING HALF TERM HOLIDAY CLUB Monday 12 February – Friday 16 February 2018

We anticipate running Wraparound’s Holiday Club through the Spring half term holidays, which is available

for Lancing Prep Worthing pupils as well as outside friends. However, if there are insufficient numbers, some

sessions may not run or some sessions may run with shorter opening hours than normal. Booking forms are

available from the School Office, School website or Wraparound:

BOOKINGS

Please ensure we receive your completed forms and payment no later than Wednesday 7 February. To

assist with the administration of the Holiday Club, please note payment must be made in full at the time of

booking by cash or cheque only; we are now unable to take Holiday Club payments online.

Should you require extra sessions during the summer holidays, subject to availability, these can be dealt

with on a “pay as you go basis”.

The Holiday Booking/Registration Form is a double-sided form; please ensure you complete both sides, as

important information about your child and various permission/consents slips will be required.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Booked days are non-transferable and non-attendance/cancellations will not be refunded as staff will already

have been put in place.

Parents/guardians must sign their child/ren in and out of the Holiday Club. Children will only be released

to named adults unless prior notification has been given.

All children MUST be collected promptly otherwise the appropriate late collection penalty will apply.

Should a child be taken ill during a session, parent/guardian will be contacted and expected to collect the

child immediately. In the event of an accident requiring urgent medical attention, the child will be accompanied

to hospital by a member of staff and the parent/guardian informed immediately.

FOOD/SNACKS

Parents are asked to provide packed lunch. Please take into account the fact that we have no fridge space;

therefore lunch should be in a small cool box/bag with an ice pack to keep the food fresh. We ask that parents

provide a healthy lunch and that children understand that they should not share food with others. Please be

aware that we operate a nut free environment so please consider this when making your child’s lunch.

Snacks are provided mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Drinking water is available at all times.

MOBILE PHONES

Please do not let your child bring mobile phones to the Holiday Club. Parents can always contact us on the

Holiday Club’s mobile telephone number should they wish to speak to their child.

Although our mobile telephone is continually manned, it is not always possible for us to answer it

immediately; therefore, please leave a message and we will get back to you!
