PROGRAM

Tour to discover the three main regions of Ecuador: Amazonia, the Andes and Pacific coast. We will begin the tour with a visit to the famous Otavalo market, bursting with colors, kindness and joie de vivre. After a stay of discovery in the Amazon, we will travel in the picturesque train of the Andes (emotions guaranteed). Before heading to the Pacific Coast (Machalilla National Park), we will visit the city of Cuenca, Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and Ingapirca, the most important archeological site in Ecuador.

Note: We leave when possible, meals at your expense.

Ecuador is not a country specialized in gastronomy but still meets all the traveler's desire to discover. It is a country quite rich in range of menus, gourmet restaurants or simply small stalls in markets or villages. The meals mentioned in the program are included in the service and those who are not are left to your free choice. Your guide and travel companion, will recommend you places or restaurants interesting, he can also accompany you in your discovery, if you wish.

Meals included are indicated as follows: B: Breakfast / L: Lunch / D: Dinner

Day 1: Quito - Otavalo – Cuicocha lagoon - Quito Early morning departure to the province of Imbabura. Visit the traditional market of Otavalo and excursion to the lagoon of Cuicocha. In the late afternoon, return to Quito. Hotel night in Quito.

The Indigenous market of Otavalo is certainly one of the most important markets of South America. This is the place to shop for souvenirs and other gifts for your loved ones. It developed in the 60s and now Ecuadorians come from all over the country to provide a variety of products. Tourists also find happiness among colorful fabrics, panama hats, ponchos and silver jewelry. Cuicocha Lagoon is one of the most beautiful lakes of altitude of Ecuador with that of Quilotoa. It is part of the protected ecological reserve Cotacachi-Cayapas. We will take a short hike to admire the landscape.

Day 2: Colonial Quito – Middle of the World - Quito

Visit of the colonial Quito, world heritage and the site of the Middle of the World. Hotel night in Quito. B We´ll go to the Panecillo, small hill overlooking Quito, on which stands the statue of the Virgin of Legarda and delimiting the colonial town of San Francisco de Quito. Then, we will go to the Independence Square, where is located the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace. Walking towards the Plaza de San Francisco, we stop at the Church of the Company of Jesus. Visit the Franciscan Monastery,

Baroque monument located in Plaza San Francisco and visit the museum of religious art Fray Pedro Gocial which is right next door.

In the Middle of the World, we will visit the site that represents the symbolic pass of the parallel Zero or Equator and its ethnographic museum. Also we will visit the Inti Nan museum showing some physical laws related to gravity and its influence and astronomical knowledge that Aboriginal groups Inca and Pre Inca had.

Day 3: Quito - Amazonia

After breakfast, departure to Misahuallí, a small village on the edge of the Amazon. Monkey watching on Napo river beach. Continue to the Lodge by canoe (1 hour 30 minutes). Installation and discovery of the surroundings. Overnight in Lodge on Rio Napo. B - D Located at 45 minutes from Tena, Misahualli is the river port of the Ecuadorian Amazon closest to Quito. It is located at the confluence of the rivers Misahuallí and Napo. The beach has white sand and attractiveness of this town are the dozens of monkeys freely circulate around the central square. It is also one of the departure points for jungle tours of several days.

Day 4: Amazonia

Navigating the Napo River to start a three-hour trek in the El Jaguar ecological reserve in the primary jungle. In the afternoon we visit an indigenous family Kichwa and tasting of typical manioc chicha ... Return to the cabins. Overnight in lodge. B - L - D

Day 5: Amazonia - Puyo - Baños Departure by canoe to Misahuallí and then by private transport to Baños, whose characteristic are the natural sources of thermal waters. Excursion to the waterfall "El Pailón del diablo", crossing the Pastaza River, in tarabita (cable cart) and observation of the Tungurahua volcano. Possibility in Baños to enjoy the thermal water pools. Overnight in Baños. B Baños is a charming resort site, with its hot springs, located at the gateway of the Amazon and the edge of the Andes. The beauty of the place and the hospitality of its inhabitants make of Baños a popular destination. Nestled in the midst of a green valley, the city, surrounded by forests, waterfalls and at the foot of the active

volcano Tungurahua 5016m, offers lush vegetation. We will visit the impressive waterfall Pailón del Diablo. Beside the Manto de la Novia waterfall, also cross the river Pastaza in Cable cart, conveyance of the local people living near the river surrounded by cliffs. If weather permits, we´ll see almost constant activity of the Tungurahua volcano.

Day 6: Baños – Chimborazo Wildlife Reserve - Riobamba

Departure to the Chimborazo's Reserve. Arrival at the first refuge Carrel Bros. at 4800 m. and then start the ascent to the Whymper refuge at 5,000 meters. Visit of the glacier and vicuñas observation. Continuation to Riobamba. Hotel night in Riobamba. B - L (Box Lunch)

Chimborazo Wildlife Reserve: For several years, a reintroduction program of vicuñas and llamas began with the cooperation of indigenous communities living in these areas of the moorland. They are very easy to observe. In addition, the Chimborazo, the highest peak of Ecuador 6310 m. is a volcano that is a great attraction for mountaineers and for people who appreciate the beauty of the landscapes.

Day 7: Riobamba - Train of the Andes «Devil´s Nose» - Ingapirca - Cuenca After breakfast, departure to Alausi where we will take place aboard the Andes train on the way to the "Nariz del Diablo". Continuation towards Cuenca, on the way, visit of Ingapirca, most important archaeological site of Ecuador. Hotel night in Cuenca. B This train ride is a technical achievement, built in the nineteenth century. The path is usually somewhat complicated but very exciting, the railway descends the hillside on a slope that goes from 2346 meters above sea level to 1860 m through a winding road, a way of less than one hour...

The archaeological site of Ingapirca is the most important and significant of Ecuador. Archaeologists have determined that the foundation took place in the late fifteenth century and they think that the Cañaris, a small tribe that populated the Andes in southern Ecuador, were the original inhabitants of the site until the arrival of the Inca Empire. The archaeological remains are located 90 kilometers north of the city of Cuenca

Day 8: Cuenca Visit of the historical center of Cuenca, of a hats manufactory Homero Ortega, and some museums and shopping des participants et shopping. Hotel night in Cuenca. B

Cuenca is certainly a city apart in Ecuador, a little out of time. Its cobblestone streets, cathedrals, its constructions with marble and white facades, give it a colonial character that we can describe as unique in Ecuador. We will visit the museum of the aboriginal cultures, the small artisan factory of Panama hats own by the Ortega family without forgetting the visit of the Cathedral of Cuenca and its squares. We'll have a nice little excursion along the banks of the Tomebamba river to appreciate the beautiful colonial houses.

Day 9: Cuenca - Guayaquil Departure towards Guayaquil city, a strategic fluvial port in Latin America. Visit of Malecon 2000, Iguana's Park, cathedral and of course the traditional neighborhood of Las Peñas. Hotel night in Guayaquil. B

Day 10: Guayaquil - Puerto Lopez After breakfast, transfer to Machalilla National Park on the Pacific coast. Relaxation on the beach in the afternoon. Overnight in Puerto Lopez. B

Day 11: Isla de la Plata After breakfast, sail to the island of La Plata and visit the site with a naturalist guide. (This island has the same

characteristics as some Galapagos Islands). From June to September, whale watching. Back in the afternoon to Puerto Lopez. Night in Puerto Lopez. B - L (Box lunch)

La Isla de la Plata is the most important place of the Machalilla National Park. Since prehistoric times, was used as a center of adoration of the sun by pre-Columbian cultures, as evidenced archaeological remains, as well as a place of interchange of Spondylus shell, primitive currency of pre-hispanic cultures.

Day 12: Agua Blanca Site - Los Frailes Beach In the morning, we will visit the pre-Inca site of Agua Blanca and then continue to Los Frailes beach. Night in Puerto Lopez B

Day 13: Puerto Lopez - Quito You will be able to use the vehicle to return to Quito with the guide. Optional you may take a fly from Manta to Quito. B End of program.
