    Walter Gropius, 1995

W e have begun to understand that designingour physical environment does not mean toapply a fixed set of aesthetics, but embodiesrather a continuous inner growth, a

conviction which recreates truth continuallyin the service of mankind.

G ood planning I conceive to be both ascience and an art . As a science, it analyseshuman relationships; as art in coordinateshuman activities into a cultural synthesis.

The Quran says that everything is createdin due proportion and with an intricatebalance (mizan). Humanity is told to

discover this balance, which encompassthe animate worlds, and within eachindividuals own self and then to submit thelaw and order of the universe as its other

inhabitants have done. As nature providedboth material and spiritual sustenance for humanity, and humanity should appreciatethe forces of nature that make its life

    possible in the planetary system.
