On the last Thursday of Term 3, 2L joined with 2C and 2G for an excursion to the Australian Reptile Park. All the children were very excited and eager to see and learn about all the amazing and unique creatures that live there. Once divided into small groups we walked around looking at all the exhibits from alligators, koalas, Tasmanian devils and Galapagos tortoises, one of whom, Hugo was celebrating his 70th birthday. After walking around we went to a presentation where we heard about lizards, snakes, koalas and tawny frogmouths. Some brave students even assisted in the presentation by holding a blue tongued lizard, shingleback lizard, corn snakes and an olive python. The children had a great day as did all the teachers and parents who came along. As we begin our final term of Year 2, many of our class are attending a two week Swimming Scheme at Toukley Aquatic Centre along with 2C and 2G. The children are not only learning how to swim but also about water safety and stroke development for the stronger swimmers. All the children are enjoying this opportunity to improve their swimming and awareness around water. We are looking forward to a very busy and enjoyable 4th term. In the last month a number of families have moved out of the Toukley area. A warm welcome to the thirteen new families who have joined us. As you may already know the new building is now complete. We have already started moving some classes into the new rooms. To say that the children are excited is an understatement. When the moving into the new building is completed we will then begin to get the library, AV room and staffroom functioning again. The library in particular is a huge task. If you have the time, please contact Chris Mastello, who would appreciate any parental involvement, even if its just an occasional hour. Mrs Armour is currently on leave for a month. As expected she can’t stay away from her school. She rings several times a day and appears for an hour or so every few days. While Mrs Armour is on leave Ms Laurie Binnie has come into the administration area to assist with the running of the school. Ms Binnie’s class, 3/4B, will be taught by Ms Simone Stephens during this time. Mrs Judy Birch is also on leave for two weeks, sunning herself in Bali. Her class, 5/6B will be taught by Mr Tim Gregson. As always, lots of programs are happening at Toukley School. Currently Kindy Start is happening three mornings a week. This wonderful program allows next year’s Kindergarten children to get to know “Big School”. CLASS OF THE WEEK—2L

Welcome back to Term 4, 2010. After a very wet two weeks holiday with many children unable to get out to play a number of parents have indicated that they were looking forward to the new term.

In the last month a number of families have moved out of the Toukley area. A warm welcome to the thirteen new families who have joined us. I suggest that you wait a week or two for your child to settle in and then find a time to chat to their teacher. If you have the time we always appreciate parental involvement. Canteen, library, classrooms, sport, garden and the P & C are all terrific opportunities for a parent to have great input into their child’s education.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

continued from page 1 Over the next few weeks three large groups of children will be attending swimming programs at various times each day.

On Friday Year 3 will be off on their excursion to Girrakool and Bulgandry.

Next Wednesday the Police Community Liaison Officer will be at our school to have their annual talk to our students.

Toukley School uses a terrific a program called PBL—Positive Behaviour Learning which covers many aspects of a child’s social development. Starting this week we have introduced yet another aspect of PBL. We have begun to have all children assemble in the COLA for a few minutes at the beginning of each recess. This is to address a number of issues; we have many children who are not eating their recess. A lot of good food is being thrown out and the playground is staying cleaner.

With today’s newsletter you will get information about our Active After School Program. This Federally funded program is another excellent opportunity to have your child involved in fun, well planned, supervised activities. there is no cost. All that is required is a commitment to turn up each week and a desire to enjoy yourself.

Each year as Term 4 progresses Grade 6 children begin to write on their clothing, particularly shirts and hats. We stress that this is not acceptable. Miss West will be speaking to children who ruin clothing, even if it is their own.

Alan Andoni — Deputy Principal

ATHLETICS RIBBONS The remaining Athletics carnival ribbons and trophies will be presented at tomorrow’s Stage 2 and 3 assembly.

SWIMMING Due to the Year 3 excursion Mr Lee’s Year 2 group for Swimming Scheme will be going to the pool from 1pm tomorrow. Any students in Year 2 who attend Swimming Scheme and are ordering a lunch order tomorrow (Friday) please write ’Swimming’ on the lunch order. These lunch orders will be prepared and ready for recess.

GATES A reminder about the locking of the gates. All the school’s gates apart from the staff car park and administration are locked each afternoon commencing at 3.15pm. Please vacate the school grounds by then or use the car park or admin gates. Thank you.

JUNIOR OZ TAG Toukley Junior Boys Oz-Tag team participated in the Central Coast Oz-Tag Gala Day (over 100 teams involved) Our boys played courageously in torrential rain and successfully reached the semi finals. After a drawn match and extra time, Toukley made it to the finals where they lost to Avoca School, the eventual winners. It was a pleasure to be involved with such great ambassadors of our school. Throughout the competition they demonstrated sportsmanship and leadership, two qualities valued by our school community. Thank you to Lisa Wade who coached the team and the wonderful parent supporters. Mrs Pollock
