VPTechnical-DaveDexterThe 2006-2007 ASPE year will be starting off

before we know it. The Board and I continue to search for interesting and informative topics our meetings. Any suggestions on meeting topics or speakers are always appreciated. Just drop me or any member of the Board a note or e-mail with your suggestions.

Given the great meeting attendance and the appreciated comments from you, the Chapter’s members, we will continue the lunch meeting con-cept this year. We hope to see everyone at Barley’s for the first meeting of the season. But until that meeting, I hope everyone is enjoying his or her summer activities and does not have to work too hard to enjoy that time.

Please send your comments and suggestions for the betterment of the Chapter and Society to the Board or me.

• The PS & D magazine is having a difficult time securing advertising. Let the advertisers know that you have seen their ads in the magazine.

• The 2007 ASPE Symposium will be held in Atlanta, Georgia.

• ASPE is currently creating a web-based fuel gas seminar which will be available soon. For a nominal fee you will be able to download the seminar and then earn CEUs by passing the associated test.

• The host hotel for the Convention is already 60% booked. Hurry and make your reservations if you would like to stay at the host hotel.

I hope everyone is having a great summer. See you in September!

Legislative-EricLemanThe 2006 International Plumbing Code (IPC)

will shortly be released. This will likely become the code that serves as the basis for the next-generation Ohio Plumbing Code. In the meantime, the 2006 IPC is available for sale at the following web sites: www.iccsafe.org and www.iapmo.org.

The International Code Council has recently published - Proposed Changes to ANSI A7,

Accessible and Useable Buildings and Facilities.

Some of the highlights include:• A change being sought to increase the

traditional 60” circle used in determining door-opening access to 96-inches. While the 60” rule does accommodate manually powered wheelchairs, it is believed to be insufficient for powered wheelchairs and scooters. How the proposed 96-inch rule would impact water closet compartments is unknown.

• It is recommended that the vertical grab bars used in accessible water closets, bathtubs and showers no longer be required. The feeling is that only an ambulatory

person, and not an individual confined to a wheelchair, would actually use the vertical grab bar.

• Water closets located in accessible compartments currently must be 8-inches from an adjoining sidewall. A range of 6 to 8- inches is being proposed to give contractors some allowance to work with. A second proposed change to the 8-inch rule would allow a /4-inch tolerance (establishing a range of 7- 3/4 to 8-/4 inches).

• Some individuals want to establish a mounting height of 4-inches for child and wheelchair-accessible urinals. While a lowered urinal mounting height for children can be justified, it is debatable as to whether a urinal could or would be utilized by a wheelchair-bound person – adult or juvenile.

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) and the International Code Council (ICC) announced that agreement

Another golf outing is in the books. What a great time. How’d you like our Oktoberfest idea? Your new ASPE stein sure would have looked a lot better had it had a cold Warsteiner in it. Sorry about that. I was really looking forward to that. I enjoy that beer.

As chairman of the golf committee I have to say that I think this was probably one of the most successful events we’ve had. Your support was tremendous. The chapter raised just over $4,000. Wow!

The chapter takes its hat off to all the major sponsors, Lochinvar/Campbell Equipment, Zurn Wilkins/BWA South, Bradley/Rep Source, Omar McDowell, Bruner, Nibco, E.C. Babbert, F.F. Leonard, & L.J. Whitfill Company.

Props go to our exclusive hole sponsors, Trombold Equipment, Leonard Valve/BWA, Viking Supply Net, & Victaulic, as well as each and every one of our regular hole sponsors. Great job guys.

A special thanks go to our volunteers. Don Konkle of HAWA, Dannon D’Arcy of Westwater, Lisa Giho from Mueller, Lisa Lively from Ferguson, Mark Dotson of Eastway Supply, and John Van

Ausdal from Korda Nemeth. As you well know, things don’t run near as smoothly, beverages don’t make it round near as fast, and the chapter doesn’t benefit near as much without them. Thanks for taking the time. Hope to see you next year.

Once again God provided another awesome day to play and the course was in excellent shape. Did you enjoy our little game on #8? That was different. If you happened to draw the “throw it” letter. Sorry about your luck. Trying to hit the ball with a full swing with a putter was challenging fun.

This year’s winner, with a 60, was the Rep Source team of Steve Van Straten, Patrick Rolwing, Matt Martinkovich and Mark Cox. Congratulations goes out to them. Nice shootin’ Tex. Oops, was that a clue as to next years theme? I don’t know, but rest assured our committee will come up with something good.

Which brings me to my final thank you. How about that golf committee (large standing ovation in the backround). Those folks gave up a lot of time, made a lot of phone calls, and put it all out there for the good of the group (crowd still roaring). This outing (best in town) wouldn’t be even as close to this successful had it not been for these people. A huge thank you to Don Konkle, Mark Simpson, Tom Jones, Tim Gleich and Dave Madsen. As always, a job well done (crowd goes bananas).

Membership news next month, stay tuned.

in principle has been reached on the essential elements of a venture to jointly develop one plumbing code and one mechanical code for use by the entire nation. After additional details of the joint venture have been worked out, both organizations intend to hold meetings throughout the country educating their members about the benefits of the new relationship.

New York has been named the nation’s cloggiest city after a national survey was commissioned by SCOTT® Tissue and Clog Clinic to help Americans understand just how much of a nuisance a toilet clog can be and to offer common-sense ways to avoid such toilet-paper dissolve-ability problems. As part of its study of blocked toilets, the SCOTT Clog Clinic sponsored a national survey to name America’s cloggiest cities.
