How did Gerry ̓  s Secret

Success Kit come to life?

The origins of my Online Video Success Kit started with aconversation with a good friend and mentor of mine. Iwas in his mastermind group and I was telling him allabout my video program. I explained how I helpattorneys across the country create educationalmessages on video.

We were discussing what each attorney needs whenshooting video and how my knowledge, experience andexpertise as a trial attorney, video producer, video editorand video distributor helps these lawyers create videothat viewers want to watch.

I knew that my secret success kit would be somethingthat no other video company had. I use this kit duringevery video shoot I go to. The contents are used to helpattorneys through an entire day of video shoot where wecreate an entire library of 50 videos, 38 videos or 20videos (depending on which program they sign up for).

The attorneys who create video get the benefit  of what iscontained in my kit, but nobody  is permitted to actuallysee what is inside. It took me a while to find the rightcompany that made this type of aluminum and titanium

briefcase. It had to have several latches and locks; it hadto be light enough to carry and also have wheels with ahandle so I can roll it through the airport.

Before every video shoot I double check to make sure Ihave everything I need. I had this caricature made after Ipurchased my success kit and after I sent the artist aphotograph of this briefcase. I told the artist to make myhead smaller and he told me to be quiet and let him dohis work. My kids said it was appropriate that he drew mewith such a big head since we were becoming sosuccessful at creating compelling content that viewerswanted to see.

Every time I look at this caricature I laugh. The videocamera is oversized; my head is oversized; my jeans areundersized and it looks like I have a five oʼclock shadow.I then remind myself thatʼs exactly why a caricature is soamusing.

The fact is that I take my video success Kit with me onevery single video shoot. Hereʼs a secret I havenʼt toldanyone yet: I recently took it with me to a mediation on a

medical malpractice case I had coming up for trial. It wasa case involving a failure to properly perform cataractsurgery resulting in blindness in one eye. When I walkedinto the conference room, the defense attorney took onelook at my secret success Kit and said “Oh my God, what

is that thing? It looks like the presidentʼs nuclear

briefcase!”

Iʼm pleased to say that my success kit worked beautifullyduring this mediation. I was able to successfully settle myclientʼs case for $725,000 one week prior to juryselection. The funny thing was that my adversary hadabsolutely no idea what was contained within mysuccess kit. Want to know what I had in there? Sorryfolks, that information remains highly classified.

Being prepared is a key ingredient for success. During Troy’s video shoot I learneda lot about the Zadroga claims process for injured ground zero workers. Next up wasBill Turley; a straight shooter with a ramrod

posture. Bill was a one-time politico whohad experience giving political speeches. His content was crisp, clear and effective.Partner Chris Redmond was next up and

addressed the Hispanic community that their office serves on a regular basis. Their

paralegal, Carmen, was his “manoderecho” (right hand) when helping thoseclients. She gave an energetic description of information these potential clients needed toknow.

Hitting clean-up was super-fast talkingCraig Rosasco. Craig runs the Hempsteadoffice and I was amazed at how fast, firmand concise Craig’s delivery was. He was anatural and again, it was obvious that his

practice made his content perfect. One of the

major benefits of having an attorney as your video producer and video director isknowing what an attorney can and cannot

say in their video. Even though the ethrules vary from state to state, there are souniversal rules that some attorneys simignore. I am proud to say that all of attorneys who participate in my program mindful of this and take great steps to insthat their content remains within

boundaries of their states’ ethics rules. This no grey area with my program.

Mid-way through the day we took a lu

break and enjoyed a brisk conversation osandwiches discussing old employeccentric bosses and family. What amame with each video shoot is that attorneys who create video, recognize himportant it is to use video to market thmessage online. By the end of the day, have formed a personal bond that translinto mutual respect, understanding andeye-opening realization that video is future of the internet.

Congratulations to Bill Turley, TRosasco, Chris Redmond and Craig Rosa

for creating content that your viewers wand need to know.

VIDEO SHOOT

CBS NEWS

I got a call from a CBS news reporter today. I was eating lunch atYogurteria across the street from my office when a woman fromCBS news called me. She introduced herself and said she gotmy name from watching a video I did on pharmacy errors. Whywas she calling? She was looking for information about a storyon pharmacy errors. How did she find my video? Google.

She called me because I provided useful information that SHE

WANTED TO KNOW. She didn’t call me to find out if I graduatedfirst in my law school class or if I was on law review. Rather, shewanted to know about the pharmacy case I handled and if I knewof any recent pharmacy error cases. She needed information.

At the end of our conversation she asked if I was handling anyrecent “newsworthy” cases. I mentioned I just settled a caseinvolving a cataract surgery nightmare that resulted in blindnessin one eye. Her response was not unusual. “Sorry, that’s notnewsworthy.”

I replied that for the injured patient it was extremely newsworthyI guess being an injured victim and losing your sight just doesn’tsell newspapers. They want something juicy. Better luck nextime.

Behind the

Scenes in the

Lawyers Video

Studio

You may be curious to know how wedo what we do. You might beinterested to learn where we edit ourattorney videos. You might even beinterested to learnwho our productionmanagers are thatmake video magic. Inthis monthʼs article,Iʼm going to take youbehind the scenes

and show you aninside look of whatwe do and how wedo it.

Iʼm on my way toWinter Park, Floridawhere my productionteam is located. Myexecutive productionmanager is the highly capable andexperienced Harry Brockman who runsa very tight ship when doing post-

production work. Another savvyproduction manager in the LawyersVideo Studio is his lovely wife Kathleenwho I might add is the brains behindthe production team. (Donʼt tell Harry Isaid that, since he might think Iʼmtaking sides). Harry does things likelugging professional video equipmentthat weigh over 100 pounds throughparking lots, without wheels of course. In addition, he oversees all post-production editing and uploading.

Joe Kalange is a video and internetexpert who makes our video come tolife. Ben is a video editor whocontinues to amaze me with what heaccomplishes. The equipment in theediting suite is just a pleasure to see.For me, walking into the editing suite isa dream come true. Buttons, displays, computers, graphics editors, non-linear

editors and more line the walls. Anyonewho has dreamt of sitting in a jetcockpit would find pure delight atseeing row upon row of electronicgadgets just waiting to be used.

I flew down to our Video Studio inFlorida because I wanted to createanother series of videos to help our

really smart lawyers understand eachstep of our video production and post-production process. I have always saidthat educating our attorneys isimportant to understand what happens

step by step in our videoprogram. There are nos u r p r i s e s a n d n oguessing. Everything isexplained.

I will be creating video thatg o e s t h r o u g h w h a t

happens before, duringand after our mastermindcall. I do the same forwhat to expect with yourvideo shoot. Then, I takeyou through the steps ofwhat goes on during thepost-production process toget your videos up online.

Why do I do this? Simple. To help youunderstand what we do for you. Themore you understand, the better levelof comfort and trust you have with meand my production team. Lawyers whotake the time to invest in themselvesand their law firms by creating videorecognize the value of t imelyinformation. The same is true ofproviding information to your existingclients. (An important take home tipthat you can now translate for yourclients). I discuss this point, amongmany others, in my mastermindsuccess call with lawyers who join my

Total Online Video Success program.

These videos are designed to keepyou in the loop and make you aware ofwhat we do for you and how we do it.Importantly, this all happens withoutyou ever having to lift a finger or learnanything technical. Thatʼs one of thegreat features of our unique program.
