  • Lombardini Marine, a division of the Lom-bardini Group, was set up with the objectiveof preparing and marketing engines basedon the innovative JMT design and on wellestablished and proven FOCS and CHD fami-lies.

Having a very modern and well-equippedplant, it can count on a team with repudedexperience in the marine sector and withsome twenty years of expertise to enablethe latest features and technological advan-ces available to be designed into the pro-duct.

Lombardini Marine engines, which areextremely lightweight and compact, can nowoffer the highest reliability, thus allowingowners to face any situation and any operat-ing condition within greatest confidence.

The design has addressed and optimisedcharacteristics such as length and economyof operation, without compromising perfor-mance, also conforms to the new Europeanenvironmental regulations in force.

The design concept and the marinizationexpertise make this range of engines the bestthat technology can offer in the marineworld, highlighting and enhancing featuressuch as the ease of maintenance and installa-tion, as well as high resistance to the effectsof salt water.

Moreover, Lombardini Marine offers one ofthe most efficient and well-trained after salenetworks, thus ensuring rapid response, combined with the reliability and professio-nalism that has always been a boast of theLombardini Group.

  • JMT series engines

The JMT series engines represent the highest point ofdevelopment of the technology applied to dieselengines for the marine sector for both pleasure andcommercial applications.

QualityWe have worked intensively, taking advantage of theexperience acquired over many years of work andexperimentation on traditional engines, which werealready at the leading edge, with the introduction ofcompact injector pumps, in order to be able to usethe Common Rail injection system.

The new Common Rail generationNew EDC16 electronic control unit with high-techinjectors delivering 5 injections per phase. A directinjection diesel engine that is increasingly similar toa petrol engine.• Excellent torque curve• Flexibility and promptness of response • Quieter• Vibration-free

InnovationThe JMT series engines have been developed in orderto strengthen the trust placed in us over the yearsand to keep our initial promises of always providingour customers with leading edge products equippedwith innovative systems.

4 or 5-cylinder engines, in traditional inboard in-lineversions and stern drive, with the standard sterndrive leg coupling of the Bravo Mercruiser range.

Moreover, in order to handle the increasing numberof requests from the re-engining market, we havedesigned and made available a kit for coupling JMTengines to the majority of existing stern drive legs.

This can be the quickest way to upgrade the on-board propulsion system without having to bear thecost of a total replacement

New generation componentsTo make the engine solid, tough and above-all relia-ble over time:• cylinder heads with hydraulic tappets;• 4 valves per cylinder;• steel connecting-rods and drive shaft;• pistons with internal channels for cooling oil circu-

lation to crankshaft and big-end bearings;• high efficiency aftercooler.

To preserve the finish for an extended period:• advanced chemical treatment of the castings; • electro-plating of sheet metal parts; • two paint coats resistant to a marine environment.

  • ConsumptionThe Common Rail – Multiple Injection combinationhas drastically reduced consumption, which in themarine sector is synonymous with greater range andbeing able to travel further without intermediatefuel stops.

For example, the LDW 194 JMTI engine has specificconsumption of 162 gCV/h at 2750 RPM, which is oneof the lowest in the category.

EnvironmentThe Common Rail-Multiple Injection features enablethis engine to improve the main aspect of diesel inenvironmental terms, by minimising the main defectrepresented by the emission of particulate and NOx.

The JMT engine meets exhaust emission require-ments and already conforms to Directive 2003/44/ECand the strict Swiss BSO standard.

Weight and overall dimensionsA series of lightweight engines with minimal weightdespite the cast-iron base, with thin walls to reducevibrations and noise.

Reduced dimensions, also because of the study ofmarine issues, that is due to the long experienceacquired by Lombardini Marine. The double coolingcircuit is perfectly harmonised within the engine’sarchitecture.

NoiseThe soundproofing covers have been subject toextensive study and are produced with a suitablematerial that resists walking and high temperatures. It enables excellent reduction of the acoustic emis-sions coming from the upper part of the head, wheremost of the noise generated by the engine comesfrom.

A rear guard for guarding the belts and moving partsmakes the engine safe and reduces the risk of injury.

Certified installationLombardini Marine’s trained and qualified personnelcertify the installation of the engine to ensure itscomplete efficiency and durability over time withoutdrawbacks.

Furthermore, a direct connection to the control unitof the engine has been provided to enable the staffof the Customer Service to conduct rapid diagnosticcheck-ups with small handheld computers during thescheduled services.

MaintenanceReduced consumption and deterioration of the lubri-cating oil, using top-quality filters has extended timebetween services to 250 hours.

The internal components do not require checks, maintenance or adjustments throughout the life ofthe engine.

    Features

  • Technical featuresCommon Rail Injection SystemThe Common Rail injection system makes it possibleto use a high injection pressure and a fuel deliverymethod which are controlled by an electronic controlunit through electro-injectors (rather than by injec-tion pumps as in traditional direct injection engines). The high injection pressure is the fundamental toolfor optimising torque delivery, fuel consumption andamount of exhaust smoke. The injection pressure is adjustable thanks to theconstructional features of the system that isequipped with pressure pump and independent elec-tro-injectors, all governed by a control unit. In thisway, the injection pressure is independent of theengine rotation speed.

The principal characteristics of the fuel delivery sys-tem are:• high injection pressure (up to 1600 bar);• injection pressure adjustable from 150 to 1600 bar

under any operating condition of the engine;• injection control precision both in terms of advan-

    ce and duration.

Multiple Injection Common RailHigh pressure injection and electronic control of theinjectors, with one additional characteristic: for everycycle of the engine, the number of injections increas-es, up to 5 per cycle. The quantity of diesel burnt is the same, but it isdivided into more parts, resulting in a more gradualcombustion and a better performance. The reduction in start-up time and amount ofexhaust smoke, an amazing torque even from 1700rpm, noise damping and emission reduction, are theadvantages provided by the Common Rail JMT

EDC16 control unitThe electronic control unit can manage, within thesame combustion cycle, an advanced Pilot injection, amain injection consisting of a sequence of three closeinjections (Pre, Main, After) and a delayed Post injec-tion, for the treatment of exhaust gases: this is madepossible by varying timing depending on load out-put.

The EDC16 control unit also enables a more precisecontrol over the pressures and the temperaturesdeveloped inside the combustion chamber, as well asbetter usage of the air fed into the cylinders. In thisway other gobjectives can be attained: control ofcombustion noise, lower emissions and better perfor-mance.

Electro-injectorsThe electro-injectors are fitted on the cylinder headand controlled by the injection control unit.

The single fuel manifold (rail) is mounted on thecylinder head suction side and allows to limit the fuelpressure oscillations caused by the pressure pumpoperation and the opening of the electro-injectors.

  • Technical featuresBlock - head - cylindersThe cylinders are formed directly in the block, whichis in ductile cast iron, and are available in threedimensional classes plus oversize.

The cylinder head is a monoblock in aluminium andsilicon alloy.

There are four valves for each cylinder, two for theinlet and two for the exhaust. Parallel and vertical, they are mounted in their respective valveguides andcontrolled by two camshafts whose eccentric camsactuate the hydraulic valve tappets.

Fixed geometry turbineTo ensure reliability and long-life in the demandingmarine environment, and to avoid costly mainte-nance activities, a special fixed geometry Garrett tur-bine is fitted onto JMT engines, which combinedwith a wastegate valve for the control of the turbo-charging pressure, provides excellent performance.

Fuel coolingA heat exchanger on the diesel oil circuit enables fueltemperature fluctuations to be contained duringoperation of the engine, ensuring ideal safety condi-tions even in the presence of tanks with reducedcapacity or which are partially empty.

AlternatorTo recharge the batteries, the 120 A at 14 V alterna-tor has been installed.

Engine flywheelThe innovative engine flywheel is the double masstype.

The first mass is integral with the drive shaft, thesecond with the gearbox, connected by an elastic tor-sional damping system.
