After 3 years of planning, fundraising, moving, building, and installing, the final phase of La Médiathèque’s makeover is now complete, marking the end of an exciting and ambitious project to create an outstanding learning and research facility.

We have transformed our premises into a state-of-the-art library reflecting the growing use of our collections, the increase in collaborative projects, our dedication to public involvement through innovative programmes, and the central role of digital technology.

Come and see for yourself, and enjoy the new Médiathèque: bigger, brighter, better!

La Médiathèque

Offering over 50.000 resources about France, in French or English, for both adults and teenagers, the new Médiathèque boasts a more spacious layout, modern furniture, more digital access points and working spaces as well as new services:

- a French Lab for both language students and teachers provides selected resources to enhance your French learning experience;

- a dedicated area for cinema, music and video games features listening, gaming and video booths;

- access to the Institut’s archives collections, for researchers and Franco-British history enthusiasts;

- a study room for humanities, social sciences, and the arts;

- co-working spaces for individual work as well as collective study.

A New Generation Library

Bigger, Brighter, Better!The Institut français is very grateful to the Friends of the French Institute Trust who supported and believed in the renovation from the beginning. Our gratitude goes to them and the generous donors, whether they are individuals, companies or foundations, for their unfailing support to the renovation project of La Médiathèque. We would like to thank them wholeheartedly.

The renovation project – the refurbishment of the Institut’s Art Deco reading room, the opening of Bibliothèque Quentin Blake and the modernisation of La Médiathèque – were successfully achieved thanks to the support and generosity of 14 companies and more than 161 private donors. With their charitable gifts and grants, the Institut français’ Médiathèque can sustain its position as one of the leading French libraries in the UK.

Thank You
