A strict CFO could be bad for businessSays global survey from Epicor Software and Redshift Research. It asked 1,500 financial decision makers about their personal decision-making styles.


The survey revealed six leadership styles that influence systems and processes, and ultimately affect business profitability and growth


9% of CFOs are ‘Traditionalists’


These CFOs are less likely to see profit growing – 56% vs. 64% for their peers


And they are the least likely to acknowledge any need for change


This could indicate that the traditional stereotype could be detrimental for

profit, and ultimately business growth


As they often own IT – it means that adherence to process and a reluctance to consider change could affect everyone


This has a big impact on an organisation’s ability to be agile

and responsive


19% of CFOs are ’Revolutionary’


The ‘Revolutionary’ is the most likely to experience a profit increase


They are more critical of how IT supports finance


And more flexible and happy to drive change where and when needed


The most popular style is the ’Politician’ (27%)


They believe that collaboration is a key challenge that needs addressing


16% of CFOs are ‘Conductors’


They are more likely than average to take decisions based on gut-feel


This is perhaps due to a lack of access to hard facts from their system


The next style is the ‘Carer’ (19%)


The ’carer’ is more worried than most about the lack of accurate data


And would rather delay a decision than risk mistakes – not good for profitability or agility!


9% of CFOs are ’Visionaries’They relish change


41% of ‘Visionaries’ believe their systems need updating


But their flexible, intuitive nature could lead to mistakes


In today’s fast paced business world CFOs need to be able to adapt to change and provide business leaders with the right information so better decisions can be made faster


Modern systems and processes free up their time and provide accurate information to support decision making


Helping the business become profitable and focussed on growth
